Was talking with another hunter last night, swapping tips, and we both realized that neither of us uses a volley macro, and we both have different misdirection macros.  It got me thinking about what we use the most, what works for you, and what do you wish you could improve on.  I'll go first for what works for me:

The Viper/Hawk swap macro

Use the most (slaps HM on the target, sends in my pet)

#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/cast Hunter's Mark
/petdefensive
/petattack

What I wish I could improve on (first shot)

#showtooltip Chimera Shot
/cast !auto shot
/cast Silencing Shot/cast [target=pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/cast Serpent Sting
/cast Chimera Shot

chimera sometimes hits off right off, and sometimes does not.  Anyways, just thought I'd share and start a discussion and learn from everyone again.

/cast Web
/petpassive
/petfollow

Spider webs a target without leaving my side.

#showtooltip Disengage
/cast Scatter Shot
/cast Disengage

Scatter Shot in the face and disengage out.

#showtooltip Disengage
/cast Wing Clip
/cast Disengage

Almost the same as above, but this time they are going to have a hard time running.

This one has become my new absolute favorite:

#showtooltip Misdirection
/cast [target=focus,help,nodead] Misdirection

I used to always have a focus target, but I didn't start using this macro until a couple of months ago.  so I was previously always clicking on my focus and then hitting MD.  Having this macro is so smooth I don't know how I was managing it before.

I also like the wing clip disengage macro that Takaas posted.  I'm wondering if there's a way to slightly add to it though?  Like having it drop some traps before doing the wing clip and disengage.  But traps are probably on the global cooldown, so just a thought….

here's another that I use, when I was BM it used to include big red in it, but not anymore…

#showtooltip Rapid Fire
/cast Rapid Fire
/cast Call of the Wild
/use 14

all the others I use are pretty standard.  I have a similar one to the hunter's mark macro that Niika posted.  I have kill command macro'd to a action bar button and then I have basically every shot macro'd to activate that button.  I think that was the old macro that you used to have to use, it works just fine still and I have no need to change it though.  And lastly, when I play MM I have one that has silencing shot macro'd into my Chimera and I believe also into my Aimed, but only those 2 shots…

Can i ask why you only have Silencing macro'd to those two?  And THANK you for reminding me about Cotw  - I really should macro that.

Tak, love those Pvp ones, thank you so much.

Yea, having cotw macro'd makes it pretty easy.  I usually pop that macro right at the begining of the fight unless there's something special about the fight.  and of course, the /use 14 only works if you have a useable trinket, but no reason to take it out if you don't.  that way it's always there if you do switch to a useable trinket Smile

for the silencing shot macro, when I switched from SV to MM I read that having silencing shot in the rotation was a DPS increase and that it was best to macro it to a shot or more.  The argument that I read though was that if you macro'd it to everything then you stood a much higher chance of not having it available for it's intended use if needed.  For example, silencing a ranged mob will make it charge you and sometimes makes it much easier on the tank to pick it up.  Best example of a location for that is for certain tanks in the forge of souls.

Now recently I read something posted by Gar, I think, about how having it in every shot could cause it to be a pretty big mana drain.  It seems to work out just fine for me macro'd to chimera.  I really can't say whether I macro'd it to aimed or not, but for some reason I want to say I definitely did.

other than the ones I posted though, I can't think of too many more that I use.  I play about half key bound and half click and that makes a lot of my guildies think I have an "I win" macro, but I don't…lol.

Typically it's best to have Silencing Shot macro'd in with every shot. the whole point is to get as many Silencing Shots in during an encounter as poosible.

Now… if you are in a fight where interrupts or silences are needed, then you should just be prepared beforehand with alternative macros.

The shot is only usable 3 times every minute, so having it macro'd to 2 shots or 4 won't matter a hill o' beans in an encounter where you need it. However, having it macro'd to all of your shots will add some DPS in encounters where the shot is not needed.

I don't macro it with Kill Shot however… but that's just me. I'd hate to be in a situation where Silencing Shot used my last bit of mana, preventing a kill shot.

If you have mana problems, then use a modifier macro with Silencing Shot. That way, it will only cast the shot when you can afford it (e.g., pressing the modifier key).

Takaas,

Do you always use that macro with Scatter Shot? I'd prefer to have an alternative, as a trap is often the first ability to be used after a Scatter Shot.

My favorite macros:

Anti-Rogue Macro

/targetenemy
/cast Hunter's Mark
/petdefensive
/petattack
/startattack

Misdirection macro

/cast Kill Command
/target [@focus] Misdirection

Kill Shot (PvP)

/cancelaura Deterrence
/cancelaura Hand of Protection
/cast Kill Shot

I'm sure I have more favorites, but those three come to mind first. icon_smile

I some times drop a trap in there as well. These two are just a couple of my favorites.
