Hello all,
I am the biggest noob on the planet when it comes to addons lol . I was just wondering if there was a step by step guide for noobs . I downloaded it and installed it , no problem . I just dont understand how to get my abilities like Focus Fire , Kill Command, Kill shot to show up when they are ready to proc . Can you set the icons to be faded with some kind of visible cool down timer ?
Thanks in advance for any help folks ![]()

OfflineHi Grewe, welcome to the Lodge.
Power Auras is wonderfully configurable, and therein lies the possibility to be totally overwhelmed. So firstly, don't worry, you're not alone.
If you want to know just about anything, Power Auras can tell you. It can even let you know when your Mrs wants a cuddle.
No, wait, that's in a future release…
Forgive me if I go over steps you already know…
1. /powa will open Power Auras main menu. You will see the dialog box is divided into two parts. The top part is Auras only relating to this character, and the bottom is Auras relating to all characters.
2. Click on NEW icon to start working on a new Aura. DELETE, COPY etc are all there too. Some you need to have a modifier just so you don't do things by accident.
3. When the Aura dialog box comes up, move it to the right hand side of your screen. And also move the main menu box to the left hand side of your screen. This will alllow you to see what the Aura looks like in the centre of your screen.
4. From the top there are a few options available: GLOW will make your Aura a little brighter, WOW IMAGES will allow you to use images from the WOW image collection rather than PA's image collection. TEXT allows you to enter meaningful words or phrases to alert you to an event, rather than an Aura.
5. The rather larger graphic image you see is the currently selected Aura. There is a slide bar with a +/- which you can use to select the Aura of your choice. There are also some placement slide bars which we will get to later.
6. There is also the opportunity to change colour if you wish but you can play with that later.
7. You will notice on the lower half of the dialog box there are several tabs. From memory… Activation, Animation, Sound, Timer. The dialog box will always by default open to the activation screen.
8. On top of the Activation screen is a drop down menu. Use this to select WHY you want an aura to activate. In this case select "Action Usable". You may have noticed that the options below the drop down box change. They will change depending on the Activation reason.
9. There is a text field where you can enter the ability you wish to notified is available. Type in "Kill Shot"
10. Don't worry about the Exact Name text field.
At this stage you will get an aura popping up on screen whenever Kill Shot is available. We can refine this a little further.
11. To the right of the drop down menu for activation reason is a tick box labeled "Use own aura". Tick this box. This will display the icon of the ability, rather than an Aura.
12. Go to the main menu on the left of the screen. There is a series of buttons down the bottom. Press Test. You will now get a rather larger icon box in the centre of your screen with a question mark in it. When it is used for the first time, the question mark will be replaced by the icon for the ability. In this case Kill Shot.
13. I mentioned earlier some size and positioning bars in the top half of the Aura screen. We'll be placing your icon now. Auras default to 75% of their size. A good size for what you want is between 10 and 20%. An important shot like Kill Command I usually have at 20%. On the SIZE slide bar, move the bar to the left to close to 20%. When close you can use the + and – buttons on the left to get the exact size you want.
14. Now we will adjust the location. Your Icon is probably on "X" plane 0 and "Y" plane -30. More or less in the centre of your screen and over your character. You don't want it there. If you haven't already done it, adjust your camera view to how you normally have it when your toon is in combat. I suggest moving your icon on X plane to +100. This will put the icon in the same height as your toon and to the right in your peripheral vision where you will easily see it, and it's far enough away that it won't interfere with your combat vision. Adjust later to your own taste.
You now have a Kill Shot icon that will come up on screen whenever Kill Shot becomes available.
On the lower half of the Aura screen yo can see all sorts of options. You can mouse over the options and a text box will explain what the option will control. For now, tick the "Combat" and "Enemy Target" options. This means the aura will only appear when you are in combat, and when your target is an enemy.
On the other tabs you can further refine your aura if you wish to. On Animation you can select how the aura will open, act, close during it's appearance. I often stick to Pulse but you canplay with that at your leisure.
On the Sound tab you can select from a number of sound bytes available to alert you to the aura. This is a good idea for the important procs like Kill Shot. It's easy to overdo things though. If you want an audible alert you I suggest the Auction House Open or Close sound with is a simple ding or ding ding.
The next tab is Timer which is a little complicated and not really needed for Kill Shot. It can be handy for Serpent Sting though to display the seconds remaining on the debuff, or to show the countdown on Kill Command being ready. What I generally do is use an aura resembling brackets "(" and ")" and then set the timer location to center. I always untick the default time display of hundredths of a second and tick the hide leading zeros box. These three selections will place the countdown in the center of the bracket like aura. A good size for this kind of aura is 15%.
Now I've taken you through all that, you could also go to Garwulf's Power Aura guide from the website home page and even download the entire collection of Gar's auras. However, now you know how to do it yourself. And the rest will come by playing with it.
I hope this has helped. Feel free to ask specific questions on anything you need help with.
Cheers

Darrwyn,
Sorry it took me so long to get back here to thank you for your help bud. I work on a farm , and sometimes it gets busy especially around harvest time etc. MUCH RESPECT and THANKS bro
Anyhoo, I tried your instructions with Kill Command instead of Kill Shot as Kill Shot doesn't work on the practice dummies lol
It worked ! , I can tell that this is the addon for me for sure . I have a question though if you have the time m8
I Got got Kill Command working just fine, however there is a ability that I am having trouble with . Its called " Killing Streak " This is what it does.
I have tried using the action useable , pet , and spell activation types, but no luck
Any suggestions bud ?
Thanks in advance dude

Killing Streak – Rank 2
When you score two Kill Command critical hits in a row, your third will deal 20% more damage and have its cost reduced by 10 Focus.

Grewe,
Glad I was some help to you. As for Killing Streak, it is an effect, not an ability. You can't "select" and "use" it, it just happens.

OfflineDoes anybody know if Questhelper or a Quest Tracking routine works with this UI. I seem to be having an issue where if I use it with the UI all appears normal until I amm supposed to show up. There it just freezes and I end up using Task Manager to kill WOW. Then if I disable Questhelper it works fine. Not sure if there is a library conflict. Have not gotten that far yet. But otherwise liking what I see and getting used to it. I do need to fix some of my keybindings. Took me a while to figure out how to fly…. Thanks!!
merc….
I am trying Quest Completist and so far that works. Not as good as Questhelper. Also the Text in the Center (Friends, Gold, FPS, etc) is controlled by what? Is that part of Power Auras??

That's SLDataText. To access it, type in: /sldt
From there, select the GarUI profile and it should resolve to the proper locations.
There's the clock, resource usage, etc… in the upper-right, the block below the action bars, then there's the tracking and coords on the map.

OfflineThanks Gar!! Worked like a charm…I am using Quest Competist now and it works well with UI. I still cannot get Auctionator to work… I like it better for its history of searches for posting auctions and buying and configuration. But seems to hand WOW bad.. Not sure why… But I am loving the new UI…Once I figure everything out and get the extras working it will be perfect! By the way; Merry Christmas to All!!

I guess I am not understanding where to enter /powa I enter it ingame and only get / help message please direct this technology retard trying to learn new tricks is a force to be reckoned with for this old dog lol
First you need to have downloaded Power Auras Classic from a WoW download site. I suggest Curse, WowIndex or Wow Interface. Once installed,
Whilst in game, hit[RETURN] to open the chat box.
Now type: /powa
