OfflineHi all,
(Niika, I DO NOT get the plaid reference… nobody I MEAN NOBODY in Australia wears plaid pants!)
I spent some time last night going through all my macros and updating them so they look pretty much like those presented in Garwulf's Macro guide, and some of the associated comments. I have kept a couple of castsequence macros for convenience as discussed in previous post (3
.
I have created another macro just for pet special abilities. I have simply put various special (and some not-so-special) abilities into one macro and if all else fails, Mend Pet is cast. I don't have access to my macros at the moment so I'll post it later on. As I get more pets with special abilities I'll just add them to the macro. In last night's testing (Twin Peaks, Predatoor, Jubei'Thos), my Chimera (I use Chimera for flag battlegrounds) was using Froststorm Breath every time I told him to (unless it was on cooldown) and was very effective. I also topped the Horde for killing blows, and came in around 3rd for damage done so it was a good test for my revamped macros and setup.
Another thank you to Niika who urged me not simply to abandon this thread, even though a lot of my ideas prooved unworkable. It is a record of testing and reviewing that I hope helps others as much as it has helped me.
Cheers,
D

Offlinesometimes ya have to turn the ice cream crank one more go round before it's good and ready.
The plaid pants reference was for a golf spammer who ran through these forums this weekend. I deleted a ton of posts and moved a whole ton off to holding. Golfers wear the most terribad outfits.

OfflineI just couldn't help myself! (Oh no! He's at it again!)
Despite the relative success of using separate keybinds for all skills and abilities out in the world, in the hustle bustle, topsy turvy, dog eat dog, kill or be killed realm of PvP… it felt unwieldy.
Sooooooooo…..
I now open with
#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/cast !Auto Shot
/castsequence reset=target/combat/12 Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting, Kill Command
/cast Intimidation
/petattack
and follow up with one of the following three (3) macros depending on focus
hiFocus (>90%)
#showtooltip Arcane Shot
/castsequence [@target,exists] Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot; targetenemyplayer [exists]; Mend Pet
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot
/petattack
The boost the Multi-Shot received recently has certainly made it viable in a PvP setting where I concentrate my WoWtime. As long as a target exists, a Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot, Focus ring-a-rosie will continue while Focus is available. If the target dies, it selects a new player target. Do not be tempted to swap this for targetenemy if you are thinking of using it in PvE. In PvP it won't matter much, but it can (and does) select the next target and if you're spamming, you'll be firing shots at the new target whether you meant to or not! Bestial Wrath makes MS nearly half price, so with BW this hits hard. If the target dies and a new player target can't be selected, my pet gets some love. After the initial sequence, and then when off cooldown, Kill Command will be cast if my pet is within melee range, else, love time for the pet.
loFocus (<40%)
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/castsequence [@target,exists] Steady Shot; targetenemyplayer [exists]; Mend Pet
/cast [@pet,exists] Concussive Shot; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot /petattack
/cast Rapid Fire
This macro only uses focus regenerating or focus neutral shots and will restore lost focus fast if on Rapid Fire. I find concussive shot is very helpful among slower, cast shots; but you probably won't need it in a PvE environment. Many prefer to have a boost button with Rapid Fire in it, but I find I forget about it, so I factor all my boosts into my regular shots and use Bestial Wrath as my prime time!
midFocus (>40%<90%)
#showtooltip
/castsequence Steady Shot,Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Serpent Sting, Steady Shot
/cast [@target,exists] Kill Shot; targetenemyplayer [exists]; Mend Pet
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command
/cast !Auto Shot
/petattack
This sequence allows for 3 shots between Kill Commands (adjust depending on your haste) and if Kill Shot becomes available, should send that off. There will be Focus drain, especially when Kill Command is followed by, or follows an Arcane Shot which may happen, despite the design of the sequence to minimise that. Serpent Sting is also reapplied. At higher levels, using Cobra Shot instead of Steady Shot will allow either another Arcane, or something else you may wish to throw in such as a Tranq Shot. If Kill Command is available, this should fire it off. If not, if Kill Command is off cooldown, that should go off.
Kill Shot has it's own keybind as do other usefull shots like Widow Venom and Tranq Shot, and traps of course.
As always this is a work in progress, but this set up gave me my very first top of the scorecard apearance in a 60-64 Alterac Valley at level 60! A confidence boost indeed. I'd topped Horde before, but this was el supremo!

D

OfflineCorrection…
midFocus wasn't working as I thought it should so I've removed the Kill Shot cast and thus it is now:
midFocus (>40%<90%)
#showtooltip
/castsequence Steady Shot,Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Serpent Sting, Steady Shot
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot
/petattack

Well, I've been refining… again…. more….

/cast !Auto Shot
/cast Blood Fury
/petattack
Focus >85%
#showtooltip

OfflineMore revising…
I now open with:
#showtooltip Hunter's Mark
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting, Kill Command, Serpent Sting, Bestial Wrath
/petattack
* note: I use the second Serpent Sting for 2 reasons… 1. My lower level hunters won't be hit capped so may miss… 2 I won't hit Bestial Wrath accidentally if I have Serpent Sting reapplied… also remember that some time may have elapsed between the Kill Command in this macro, and when I reapply SS…
Main macro
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=target Steady Shot*, Steady Shot*, Steady Shot*, Arcane Shot, Concussive Shot, Steady Shot*, Steady Shot*, Steady Shot*, Serpent Sting, Concussive Shot
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot
* Higher level BMs will have access to Cobra Shot, and will replace Steady Shot, and ditch the Serpent Sting in favour of another Steady Shot, or Tranq Shot etc… A second Arcane Shot is an option, but it drains focus faster.
Low Focus Macro
#showtooltip Steady Shot*
/castsequence Steady Shot*
/cast [@target,exits] Concussive Shot; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot
* once again, replace Steady Shot with Cobra Shot when available.
Macro Dump
#showtooltip
/castsequence Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Concussive Shot, Arcane Shot
/cast [@target,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
/cast !Auto Shot
Cooldowns
#showtooltip
/cast [mod:shift] Rapid Fire; Bestial Wrath
/use 14 * On use trinket that boosts AP, agility, etc
/use Potion of the Tol'vir – Agility buff
/cast Ancient Hysteria – Will only activate if you have Corehound
/cast Call of the Wild – Will activate with Ferocity Pet
/cast Roar of Recovery – Will activate with Cunning Pet
/cast Rabid – a catch-all in case other pet commands are on CD
/cast * Racial – If Berserking etc
I try to only use the Macro Dump with Bestial Wrath, while the shots cost a lot less focus, or when one or two instant shots might tip the balance of the battle and put my enemy into Kill Shot range.
Remember, I only play solo questing/farming or PvP, and therefore the Concussive Shots aren't wasted DPS for me, but vital stuns and slows. You may wish to review my extensive use of this shot throughout my macros if adapting them for PvE use.
Have fun, I am… (I now have 3 hunters on the go… 85, 69 and 14… all on different servers!)
Cheers,
D

OfflineOkay folks, some good news.
I will not be continuing this thread. It's now into its 3rd page and I've gone in a different direction… sortof.
Look for another heresy thread on the PvP forum, or even an article if the sensor…. oops, co-ordinators want to go that way.
If anyone is actully USING any of the macros I've put up here, send me a private message and I'll update you with what I am currently using.
Cheers,
Darrwyn

OfflineWhile I still intend to submit a heretical article in the future, I hought I'd update what I've been up to lately.
I've spent all my time on my MM hunter the last couple of weeks, and he is now level 42. And his macro usage has changed considerably too.
These days I open with:
#showtooltip Aimed Shot
/petdefensive
/petattack
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark, Aimed Shot, Serpent Sting
If I'm not able to stand still for 3 seconds I just place the Mark, otherwise I let loose the strongest shot in my arsenal.
I then follow up with either:
#showtoolip Arcane Shot
/petdefensive
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/castsequence reset=6 Serpent Sting, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Widow Venom, Arcane Shot
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
/use 14
Widow Venom is included after 3 damaging shots because by then, classes that can heal will be trying to, and it gives me a GCD worth of focus regeneration before another damaging shot, and that 1.5 seconds can be very useful. I use my on-use trinket whenever it is off cooldown, as I only use this macro when I want burst anyway. Kill Command is my second most deadly attack, even in MM and SV, so I always include it in damage macros. KC is often overlooked in non-BM specs but if you look at the damage it does, it beats Arcane hands down, and without RNG interference you get if your range weapon does not have a fixed damage rating.
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/petdefensive
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/castsequence [@target,exists] Steady Shot; Mend Pet
/cast Roar of Recovery
/cast Rapid Fire
This is my focus regeneration macro. Earlier I included a Kill Shot cast in there too, but I have since specced into the talent that gives bonus focus for Steady Shot against a target with less than 25% health.
An interesting macro I thought I'd share is one I have name Flush. Nothing to do with bathrooms, its aim is to turn the tail on a unit in stealth. As we can detect hidden units, I move around a BG spamming this button…
/targetenemyplayer
/petattack
/castsequence Serpent Sting, Hunter's Mark, Concussive Shot
/cast [@target,exists] Rocket Barrage
Upon detecting a hidden enemy player, I'll let loose a Serpent Sting and my pet will attack. Then it's a matter of reaction… I'm still training myself to hit the key again to set the Hunter's Mark and one day I'll get the stun in too… but I find myself launching into disengage and my damage sequence, and I often, but not always, win the encounter.
This differs from Garwulf's macro in that he uses it when he suspects a hidden unit might be around… I just know they're around LOL so I spam this.
I have a similar macro I call Jumped:
/cleartarget
/targetenemyplayer
/petattack
/castsequence Hunter's Mark, Disengage
/cast Dash
/cast Dive
/cast Sonic Blast
/cast Web
/cast Snatch
/use 13
I do all sorts of things here as you can see. I have both Dash and Dive for if I'm using a ground or air pet, and the respective special attacks available to the pets I PvP with. I also use my absorb trinket.
As a side note, you will have seen the Rocket Barrage cast, so yes, my MM hunter is now a Goblin!
Cheers

OfflineI've already made some slight changes to my MM setup, and that is mainly due to to Concussive Bombardment talent being maxed out. (100% chance for Multi-Shot to daze those hit for 4 seconds).
My Damage macro is now:
#showtoolip
/petdefensive
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/use [@target,exists] 14
/castsequence reset=target Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot, Serpent Sting
/cast [@pet,exists] Kill Command; Mend Pet
I've dropped the Hunter's mark from Aimed Shot:
#showtooltip Aimed Shot
/petdefense
/petattack
/cast [@target,exists] Aimed Shot; mend pet
And added it to Regeneration macro
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/petdefensive
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast [nocombat] Hunter's Mark
/cast Steady Shot
/cast Roar of Recovery
/cast Rapid Fire
I need to test whether the macro will fail if I put Rapid Fire before Steady Shot and it's on cooldown…
I've also added a Hunter's mark key to my keyboard setup for if I change targets during combat.
I've also made slight adjustments to Flush and Jumped:
Flush
/targetenemyplayer
/petdefensive
/petattack
/cast Dash
/cast Dive
/cast Charge
/use [@target,exists] 14
/castsequence reset=3 Multi-Shot, Hunter's Mark
Jumped
/cleartarget
/targetenemyplayer
/petfollow
/petattack
/cast Dash
/cast Dive
/cast Charge
/cast Snatch
/cast Sonic Blast
/cast Clench
/use [@target,exists] 13
/castsequence reset=3 Hunter's Mark, Multi-Shot
