Does anyone else think this is a horrible idea ?

While, yes, I admit it sounds nice to have a "pet" at the lower levels, I know I survived without it and so did all of you. Not to mention that, at least as a BM hunter, I have never forgotten my first pet.

Taming pets isn't like having minions for Locks, or being able to summon Pebblemuncher for DKs who spec unholy. It's part of our story and I know I've never quested or done a battleground or dungeon without my pet by my side. They're a part of our character and our story. Blizzard is somewhat taking that away from us by introducting "starting pets."

What if my troll hates raptors ? Or I don't want a tenacity pet as an orc ? Yes, maybe it's too low level to count, and you won't have them for long, but I don't like the thought of it. Actually choosing a pet is something I looked forward to, and maybe I still will, but I don't want "Wolf" following me around as I try to get there.

I don't like the idea either.

Being able to choose and tame your own compaion at level 10 is one of the most memorable experiences of leveling a hunter.

From what I understand, the starting pet isn't really under the hunter's control, but still… I feel the whole level 10 quest is pretty sacred and starting with a "follower" pet kind of trivializes the importance of getting that first pet of your choosing.

More importantly, it facilitates the lazy hunter method of operation. Those first 10 levels are crucial in helping a hunter learn how to kite and maintain range.

We'll see what happens, but I hope they reverse this decision.

haha, awesome, thanks Hakuro!

Yeah I'm probably far behind on that information and no doubt most when it comes to the expansion. I took yet another WoW hiatus and am just getting back into the mix of things.

Thanks again. :)

The whole leveling experience is now made so it goes faster. While yes it does make it nice for people who are just starting to get to high level stuff, it also makes for stuff like "huntards". They level so quickly that they don't learn the mechanics of the classes, Hunters especially. I've lost count of how many Hunters I've run in to that don't know how to properly use their traps or their pets or stuff like misdirects. Heck I've even see ones that don't know what feign death is. Frown These were all 80s. So in my book, this is just another thing that will add more "huntards" to WoW.

Will they be removing the Tame Beast functionality at level 10?  Maybe I am missing something, but we can still have the experience of running through Dun Morough just to tame a snow bear?  (which I promptly abandoned once I got home, instead of dismissing, after a very long and arduous run by my blood elf.  Made for a great rp story, however huntardish it was…)

My understanding is that you still need to train to use tame beast at level 10. In other words the pet you get when you start is the one you will have till level 10.

From what I've read, at level 10 you gain the skill "Control pet". It seems like that will act similarly to everything we're used to learning for our pet. I haven't found out yet if they're taking away "Feed pet", but I hope they are.

I also want to find out if the guardian we'll have at the lower levels with despawn once we learn "Control pet" or if they have the option of keeping the starter pet, just now with it's own action bar.

Yes I think this is absoulutely horrible. Hunters should get to choose their first pet because if we start with one most hunters will just go and get a new one. When they should take their time and think about it for 10 levels.

One thing I just thought of is, can we abandon the starting pet if we wanted? Then just go through the whole starting area like it is now till level 10 when you get the "control pet" thing and tame what you want.
