Ok, I just made my first hunter. I heard they changed the pets so they are all about the same? Well I was wondering if I go the BM Spec.. Are there pets I can still get that make a difference? Like if I got a bear, would one have a faster swing or better skills… Or a Cat or something… Plus if I get the Exotic Pet, Which is best for dps and which is best for tanking.. Sorry to ask, but I can't figure out if I should be looking for a pet of any type or not…Anyways, I appreciate the answer.

Hey NewbHunterWC!

Sorry, my thread wasn't very clear. Pets will be equalised soon (in about November time I'm guessing), in saying this… BM is the best and easiest spec to play as a hunter! Generally, bears are good tanking pets, cats are good DPS pets and if you go BM you must get an exotic pet! Raptors do best DPS at the moment, but if you want to go for a spirit beast they are equally as good I imagine(?).

All pets have normalized attack speeds and no real advantages apart from the standard family talents.

That said, these are the best pets currently:

PvE DPS Pets

Wolf

Devilsaur (BM only)

PvE Tank Pets

Bear

Croc

Wolves are generally the best DPS pet for all specs. Devilsaurs start to have a slight advantage (for beast masters) as you get into raiding, due to them scaling better with buffs.

Cats and Raptors do decent damage, but still trail behind the wolf. Wasps are behind as well, but are still worth a mention due to their armor debuff attack. If your group doesn't have some sort of armor ignore spell, then Wasps can actually provide the most overall DPS.

Bears and Crocs are regarded as the best tanking pets due to their AE threat generating abilities. Rhinos and Worms (BM Exotics) are actually not quite as good as either of those two. There is really never any reason to use a Rhino, apart from preference, and a Worm is mostly used for PvP.
