What do other hunter's like to roam Azeroth with?

To be honest, I have been less than impressed with Spirit beasts. For their rarity, and their exclusiveness, they just aren't that great.

DPS does not seem much higher than with another similarly specced ferocity pet…

Spirit mend heals like a wet bandaid on a severed artery…

My expectations may have been too high, but they certainly don't set the bg or the world on fire for me. I'd rather travel Azeroth with a bear or boar, or through bgs with a chimera or a silithid when I'm specced BM.

And not every hunter chooses beastmastery!

I am currently specced MM, and these are the companions I choose:

Travelling around Azeroth/high level farming:   Bear – I like Swipe and Ferocious Roar.

Battlegrounds                                            :    Opposition melee heavy – Bird of Prey for disarm

:    Opposition caster heavy – Ape for pummel… a second silence!

:    Opposition balanced, no flags – Hyena… lockjaw – root (melee)

:    Opposition balance, flags – Spider… web root (range)

Instances (not that I do them other than solo:   Wolf or Cat for the DPS boosts for the party.

So who do other hunters travel with, and why?

Cheers,

D

In defense of Spirit Mend, it helps reduce downtime, at least for me. =) Also, when soloing elites and world bosses, I choose a Spirit Beast and put Spirit Mend on passive. That way it heals itself when below 50%, which adds to my Mend Pet ticks. Plus it eats casters in BG. A steady diet of Spriests and Mages makes a happy pet. icon_wink

Otherwise, when I'm running Solo and I'm not in BM spec, I choose the mighty Turtle. Specced into Guard Dog, Thunderstomp, Greater Stamina and Blood of the Rhino, it's a pretty decent tank against groups and elites.

Chimaera/Warp Stalker for the ranged slow, though Warp Stalker is a more preferred choice due to Intervene (and Melee hates their slow).

I once tried Crab for MM/SV but it didn't work out really well, since I can't PvP with MM for the life of me. But Pin is a very useful thing to have.

Scorpid for Disarms against Hunters and Melee.

Cats and Wolves for dungeons, though I also pull out my Wind Serpent from time to time if the other DPSers in my group are casters. Sure doesn't help matters if the Mage is aggro-happy though.

Core Hound when I'm in AV and there's no Shaman around to hit Bloodlust/Heroism. Otherwise I stay away from the Hound, it's just too squishy IMO.

Shale Spider is also fast becoming a favorite for the 3-second stun and the BoK passive. Plus, people hardly notice it running around, it's just so small and dark it's hard to see, especially with Glyph of Lesser Proportion.

King Krush <tm> for when I want extra caster eating power.

I once had a Demon Hound sitting around in my stables. The DPS and Lockjaw were very useful, but at some point I found I preferred the Warp Stalker better.

I also have a Rhino sitting around for when I want to send people flying. Especially DKs and Casters. He's aptly named "Whee". icon_wink

If a Tauren Hunter and a Tauren Druid marry and have children, you will end up with BraveStarr and Thirty-Thirty.

All the Spirits are Ferocity which if you're going to use that spec the bonus heal ability is nice. Otherwise, it's largely cosmetic. No need for spirit walk.

Turtle-Soloing 5 mans.

Just starting PvP but Jadefang is going to be I think of much use. As Gryzor said, with the glyph you can barely see the lil bugger. Especially if I can switch pets after the fact.

Ape will be helpful there as well.

Not knowing you aren't supposed to be able to achieve something often ensures that you will.   Book of Agio 22:2
