This eve I was running the dailies and Deth'tilic popped on NPC-usually I figure it's just someones pet in that trainwreck zone but I wandered around the spire and there the big purple bastich was. Absolutely no one around.

I'd read Gar's and many others posts about the tame solo,  so I nabbed me a spider and commenced my attempt. The 1st time I truly ganked the kite line and got nailed. 2nd time I got the kite line down but took him too far, pulled aggro off two spiders and he re-set. So I run back in too much of a hurry and try again. Okay, all bad, all very very very bad. Whacked again and deservedly so as I got in a race with myself. 

4th time I tried to get cute and do a reverse jump disengage over top of him when I got close to what I figured was the re-set point so I could take him back through the traps, timed it wrong and he whacked me again. Long legs that boy has.

So, now I'm on the 5th go. I actually took a few hits without getting one shotted-dunno how that happened, I figure he was maybe taking pity on me with gentle spidey bitch slaps. I had him in what at best could be called a smooth chaos kite. This one was going nicely, I had the timing down for the traps, shots, sending in pet, doing the revive. Then he did whack me out. He magically went right through that rock cluster near his spawn point and that was that, I'm kissing the spirit healer.

6th go. I notice the lil armor thingy up on the screen. Like that matters with this one shotting weasel. Well…apparently it does because I'm kiting doing some bastardized jump shot that would get me banned from the huntering school of professionals forever and when I hit one of my shot keys…nothing. Alrighty then, I mash them harder because that always works. Nope, nada n zip. Of course it's my fn gun and only the gun that is glowing red. On top of everything the game is now p*****g in my cornflakes? Just the ranged?  I'm also thinking maybe the low rent engineer who I swapped gems with for this piece of garbage might've used crappy materials when he crafted it because I truly put him to sleep on our trade deal. Hey, it could happen. Lot of conspiracy theories and bitter engineers floating around as of late. Certainly wasn't my fault.

Okay, so now aside from really wanting a bow or a slingshot, I ride allllllll the way back to the troll repair dude, fix gun and head on back. Damn spider is still  there all by his lonesome and I swear he is smirking, mocking me.

7th attempt. Man I was so much in the groove on this one. Buddha like patience and for f**ksakes, on my mother I swear, I FALL OFF THE LEDGE. As an aside I really dig that animation where you hang for a few then plummet. Anyhow at this point I'm laughing so hard-it's so painful it's funny. God I hate spiders.

8th attempt. Even though I'm pretty much punch drunk, there is no way I'm gonna use one of the shortcuts I've read about. It's a Solo or nothing. Again I think I kite him a tad too far but this time he doesn't re-set. Ah, another hunter and two guildmates of his are on the scene attacking as well. So they proceed to drag him down to where the NPC's hang and all hell breaks loose. I'd read about that trick but I thought Deth'tilac would re-set but he didn't. So, I figure I'm pretty much screwed in this deal. Between the three guildies they've got him wrapped and I'm not going to gank em. The NPC's are unloading on spidey along with the other players until they pulled him away from the NPC's.  So I stood aside and watched the other hunter tame Deth'tilac with no trapping, no kiting at all really. Well the hunter did back up a couple times. Even congratulated him though I thought it was kind of a wussy way to do it but hell I'd certainly had enough kicks at the cat.

So to make a longer story even longer I failed big but I had a great time trying to solo this guy and I will get it down pat and do it solo. Why bother otherwise? I dislike spiders as it is. I must admit, I found the overall tame attempt quite hard whereas I've read quite a few players who say it's easy but then again I lack their skill. Maybe I'm just honest. Whatever, t'was a tragic comedy

Niika that is indeed getting to be more and more of a tempting offer-I'd be an Orc! While Anj's help would be invaluable, are you sure he wouldn't try and do a reach-around grope if he was in my back pocket? Just askin….

This morning it occured to me that given everything I do I solo or try to I had the wrong mindset. 5 mans solo etc. you're pretty much constantly on the move like a spastic puppet on speed. You don't have the room or time for an endurance test. So essentially I'm used to sprinting not a marathon-which this tame is and I was sprinting. Validated that this morn by re-mapping some keys and slowly trapping and kiting around some mobs in Twilight in what I can best recall the path you use for Deth'tilac. No problem. Course I am a bit rusty do to my recent hiatus and with my skill level, that's akin to kamikaze craziness. Natch hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Had the same thing happen the 1st half dozen times I went after Altairus for the mount (no the ugly dragon hasn't ponied it up yet). Reading and watching other players ain't the same as you doing it. It's a really an endurance and timing solo. Once you figure out the mechanics for yourself and the timing then implement the strategy best for you it's challenging but not terribly hard. But until you get the timing right, it's a non-starter. He'll frost blast your ass to death.

No matter, the failed tame attempts didn't bother me so much as crack me up. Hell that I had no one around interfering was rare.
