Lost him three times today, died all three.  I can see I'm going to have to use the tree approach I guess, I wanted to uuse the platform behind the statue of Malourn.  I got a trinket Evonice's Landin' Pilla that worked perfect, but Ban'thalos never hit my ice trap and got me in two shots.  Of course the first two times I pretty killed myself, used my trinket, but had forgotten to equip it, so no soft landin.  Question for any that know, do you drop your ice trap as your falling, or before you fly up?

CG, before you fly up. In my case, once I saw Ban’thalos, I dropped my trap, flew up a bit, shot, cancelled attack, then tamed.

Good luck!

Or have a fellow mage get up there hit it for you as they fall down near you have an ice trap ready hit it before they disappear and you will complete your tame (that's how i did it today to be exact /cheer lol) I did the tree tip but when he spawned (waited all morning for it) I got all crazy trying to get to him that i wasn't able to land back onto the tree. This was a simple tame.

The trick to staying on the tree, once you’ve found your landing spot, is to only used the spacebar for movement. That guarantees an upward flight from and a downward fall on the same spot. I also practiced getting to the right height where I can fall without damage.

If it helps, line up the useful actions on a new action bar and then practice once more how you’ll do the key presses.

I found it easy to continually land in the same spot on the tree with Anj's advice.  Make sure you do not have a kitten nearby however, who continually wants your attention that you are trying to give your keyboard.   Grats on your tame, Baxxel!

Hey guys, havn't actually tried this yet, but as far as I can tell from posts on WoWhead, this beasts hits are amplified based off your armor rating. So go nude, and this cat won't hit you very hard at all icon_smile

Abby, be sure to let Anj know.  I"ll let you know if I see him too.  <3

Jex, think you may be in a different thread.  Banthalos is a green spirit owl

I keep circling his spawn area but no sight of him, at least alive yet.

Strategy review. This worked for me and I hope it helps out…

Check if you're in BM spec. Also check if you have properly dismissed your pet and if you have an empty pet slot. Then make sure you are configured to dismount on attack. R?

1. The best spot is up on the tree.
2. When Ban'thalos is in range, cast Freeze Trap then mount. Hit the spacebar to fly up a bit. But not too much or you'll get damage from the fall.
3. Shoot Ban'thalos *once* then cancel attack. You'll fall back on the Freeze Trap at this point. Ban'thalos is tagged and aggro'd now. Re-acquire Ban'thalos as your target.
4. Cast Deterrence then Tame Beast. (Ban'thalos' attack should have been caught by Deterrence and Ban'thalos should now be frozen while being tamed.)

Completely optional:

- Potion of Speed and Basilisk Liverdog to buff Haste
- a Core Hound to cast Ancient Hysteria
