OfflineHi to all!
So first things first. I am a huge fan of Garwulf as well as this website. Both have helpme actually not suck major eggs at WoW as a hunter and for that you all have my eternal gratitude. I do, however, still have many things to learn, though I assume I of my will be able to find answers to most, if not all, of my questions somewhere on here, so I'll keep this short-ish.
N00b Question #1: What exactly does "proc" mean? Yeah I know, haha I don't have the WoW dictionary memorized yet ![]()
N00b Question #2: What are these trinkets people keep talking about? Let me clarify so I dont sound quite as stupid. Which ones are preferred and at which level? And whilst I'm on the subject, what's this 50 hp trinket I keep hearing about that is supposedly a lifesaver in bg's?
N00b Question #3: Ok guys last one. What are optimal stats for level 85 PvP and stat priority? I'm talking hit, crit, agi, stam, etc.
Ok sorry to talk your ears off but I just really need some help. Nobody ever helps the low level hunters ![]()

OfflineWelcome! You have come to the right place, we cater to ALL Hunters. You score extra points if your Horde. JUST KIDDING!
Ok, on to your questions.
Question #1: What exactly does "proc" mean?
Proc is a common term used primarily in game programming to refer to an event – a "procedure" – triggered under particular circumstances. For example, in WoW, a particular weapon (that hits many times) might have a 10% chance on each hit to apply a special effect, such as poison damage. When WoW users talk about "how often this weapon procs", they are talking about the likelihood of the special effect occurring.
#2: What are these trinkets people keep talking about? Let me clarify so I dont sound quite as stupid. Which ones are preferred and at which level? And whilst I'm on the subject, what's this 50 hp trinket I keep hearing about that is supposedly a lifesaver in bg's?
There are lots of trinkets out there. I'm going to give examples of ones that are good at level 85 and if you are looking for more info we can go from there.
These are good PvE trinkets:
http://www.wowhead.com/item=58181
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/item/56328
These are good PvP trinkets:
http://www.wowhead.com/item=70607
http://www.wowhead.com/item=70517
The first PvP trinket I show is pretty much a must have as it breaks you of of crowd control abilities. The only exception being if you play a Human Hunter, which they have a racial ability that breaks you out of crowd control.
#3: Ok guys last one. What are optimal stats for level 85 PvP and stat priority? I'm talking hit, crit, agi, stam, etc.
Get you hit rating to about +5.00%. Like PvE its the first stat you want to top out. After that you gem/enchant agility, like you do for PvE. You also want to get your spell penetration up to around 200. (This is something I thought strange at first when Garwulf pointed it out, but it does help your "spell" abilities like arcane shot hit harder.)
I hope this helps. If you have more questions, don't be afraid to ask. We are a friendly group around here and won't go all "elitist" on you.

OfflineWelcome Mokongo.
You lucked out when Takass saw your post first… he's one of the gurus around here. And what he said about bonus points if you're Horde is true…! (In polite circles, we don't mention that Garwulf is a Night Elf!….shhhh)
The only point I feeel compelled to add to Tak's advice in that in PVP you need to stack resilience. Resilience is defence against damage from other players. Extremely unwanted in PvE, but essential in PvP. How much is enough… you can't get too much! You are in luck though, all PVP gear has resilience built in. However, this is considered wasted in PvE, so don't try and do dungeons in pvp gear, especially in PUGs (Pick Up Groups); they don't like it.
Your questions were aimed at level 85, but I get the impression you are not there yet? PVP gear can be obtained in various places while levelling… though I only know the Horde side of the equation.
Level 18, 28, 38 you can get PVp gear from Warsong Gulch vendor and Arathi Highlands vendor. For the Horde, the Warsong vendor is in an armed camp near the border of Northern Barrens and Ashenvale; look for the flight point to the Mor'Shan Rampart. It's a little south and in the hills. The Arathi Highlands vendor is just outside the camp of Hammerfall in the far north east of Arathi Highlands. From level 48 you can also get PvP gear from the Alterac Valley vendor just north of Taren Mill in the Hilsbrad Foothills. Once you hit 60 you can buy top of the line stuff from all these vendors plus the legacy vendor in Orgrimar inside the hall of Heroes. Level 70 you can go shopping in Gadgetstan, and level
in Dalaran sewers.
Leatherworkers can also craft PVP gear but from memory they start at level
.
Some PVP gear is available from the Auction House but you usually need to buy it with Honor Points. You get Honor Points from participating in Battlegrounds. You get more HP from winning than from killing other players, though glory hounds don't seem to realise that. BGs are about objectives, not slaughter. From level 70 you can also compete in Arena battles, though I'm no expert there.
Sorry if I've included stuff you didn't need to know or worse, already know, but once I start, it's hard to stop. Ask Niika!
Anyhoo, welcome once again.
Cheers,
D

OfflineWelcome welcome welcome! I'd second everything that is said and want to learn your level to make more intelligent recommendations on trinkets and levels and such. I personally shoot for 8% hit cap (even as I level) so I can take out the Elites (The Uberslaughterererers of Azeroth) at or above my level. I am more of a Green player rather than Red player (PVE, that is… get it, E = Environment = environmentally aware… bah, okay that was a super bad pun) so tend towards looking at things with boss deaths in mind.
So… tossing questions back at you:
Armory link
Type of content you like to work on
Any other questions at all (there are no stupid ones)
and WELCOME!
Welcome to the Lodge, Mokongo. ![]()
Just to add to Darrwyn's post, Leatherworkers can craft and wear the Swiftarrow Battlegear PvP set starting at level 78. It can basically help fill in for your PvP needs before you start getting Wrathful/Relentless Gladiator gear during the early
's, at which point you can ditch it (unless you need the resilience from the off-pieces or something); it lasted me all the way up to 4k+ GS in WotLK when I started getting Wrathful off-pieces, right before I retired from Wrath. However, you'll need to farm a ton of Elemental Air and Heavy Borean Leathers, meaning you need to spend a lot of time in Zul'drak, Wintergrasp and Sholazar Basin for these things, especially since you will need Heavy Borean Leathers to buy the patterns from Braeg Stoutbeard in Dalaran.

OfflineWow! Thanks all for the advice. Sorry it took so long to reply, I lost my post lol. To Ozolon, yes. In fact I'm Demon Soul's premier troll hunter =P So basically we're looking at 5% hit 200 spell pen and as much resilience as possible for PvP? So then how much percent crit? I thought it maxed at 17%, is that right? Last question, any suggestions for good pets, PvP or otherwise now that I'm lvl 40? Or just wait for exotics? P.S. I know it's not a big accomplishment but today in The Hinterlands I caught Shadra that big spider queen. May not be much but it made me happy. Anyway thanks again all.
Aha, level 40 BM on Demon Soul. I had to look up your armory so I could figure out what to say…lol. =D
There's no easy suggestion on which pet you might want to grab, since it will largely depend on your play style. You might want to stick with a Tenacity pet like a Scorpid or Crab; Scorpid for the Clench (disarm), Crab for the Pin (root), either one for the Charge talent which is a very useful interrupt.
Since it appears you're in Western Plaguelands, you might want to drop by the Eastern Plaguelands once you hit 43 or so to tame a Runed Demon Hound (I think they're called Plaguehounds in that area). Being Ferocity, they can manage to bust out a little more DPS, as well as bring Lockjaw to the table, which is similar to a Crab's Pin. Talent the hound so it gets Charge and Dash, and you get one very nasty speed demon (no pun intended). Just make sure you heal it every so often as it is VERY squishy.
A Bat or Wasp will also be useful for their 2-second stuns, but the latter will be a wee bit hard to get at your level. Lots of Bats can be found flying around in Tirisfal Glades, including the rare albino bat Ressan the Needler which can be found in the middle of some farmlands, and is easier to get as a Hordie. You can also grab some Darkhounds here which are Dog-type beasts similar to the Runed Demon Hounds, but you might want to keep an eye out for the rare spawned Bayne.
Lower-level Wasps are available en masse near the center of Loch Modan, including the rare yellow firefly Nix. But to get to them, you'll have to do a bit of running all the way across the Wetlands and through the tunnels into Loch Modan, which WILL get you shot at by NPC guards. Being at your level, though, it shouldn't be a problem (I pulled it off at level 20). Otherwise, you might want to drop by Feralas for the Zukkash Stingers or the rare spawn Stinglash, who is very cool looking.
Final Edit: The above are all PvP pet suggestions =P. For PvE I suggest going with a Wolf, Lion or Wind Serpent for dungeons, and a Turtle for soloing.

The 2 second stuns from the bats are helpful, but they are on a 60 sec timer which is a tad long. The spiders however can cast their web every 40 seconds so may be more useful in pvp than bats… though my undead hunter liked bats for the RP of it all. But he uses spiders most of the time these days.
Of the tenacity pets, the crab's pin is helpful in pvp but for questing you can't beat a bear in my opinion, but they have no real useful utility in pvp.
There are also 3 cool spectral pets you can go for that SV and MM hunters can feel all BM with… lol There is the spectral cat in Northern Darkshore, a spectral boar in Razorfen Downs (one of the bosses pets) and a spectral wolf in Eastern Plaguelands called The Lone Hunter which you encounter on the quests from the first tower hub. you can also tame the hawks you need to kill for one of the quests from the Cenarian Circle guys north of Arbodal (whatever) . As a bird of prey his disarm ability is useful against melee classes. Once you tame him you need to dismiss him however, or the silly troll druid you are with will keep trying to kill him.
Cheers

True, I almost forgot about this. It takes forever for that 2-second stun to come back. I like the Ranged stun of the Bat, though, but the Wasp's has a shorter cooldown (by 15 seconds) at the price of being at melee range. Also, to be honest I have not tried bringing a Spider with me as BM, I always felt they would be more at home in MM spec for the root.

LOL. The guy who casts Starfall and Moonfire on himself… XD Anyway here are the pets Darrwyn is referring to:
The spectral cat: Ghost Saber. He can be a wee bit hard to spawn since you have to activate randomly-spawned Feline Statues in some Troll-infested ruins north of Darkshore to get him to appear, and even then it's at random. That, and the place is largely an Alliance zone. But yes, he looks cool and could almost pass for a Spirit Beast to the untrained eye. ![]()
The spectral boar: Boar Spirit, summoned by one of the bosses in Razorfen Kraul.
On the subject of Spirit Beast lookalikes, though, here's a better looking Bird of Prey you can easily get in Stonetalon Mountains: Emerald Spirit. They're rather common in the Elven ruins south of Sun Rock Retreat, and they look awesome.

OfflineHey cool,
Now that I'm actually on my computer instead of my phone I can type a bit better =P Anywho, I'll have to drop by Eastern Plaguelands to grab me a demon doggie =D Yea I was gonna say, I've heard crabs' "Pin" ability is okay, but after testing out Gar's Anti-Rogue macro utilizing "Web" I must say…I'm sold 100% on the PvP efficiency of spiders. Though I also must say I'm glad I can pick me up a demon puppy. I'm just trying to find new, cool pets to tame while I level to 75 and grab King Krush ;-) WHICH btw, I will be doing successfully on my first try. Just sayin'. As usual, thanks all for the help.
P.S. I'm now level 51…yes, I know. I do level like a fiend ^_^

OfflineSpiders are a really great utility pet when it comes to pvp. Not only because of the short down time on their web ability. At higher levels they have "bullheaded" and "roar of sacrifice" which help out greatly when dealing with classes like Mages or Rogues.
As BM once you get to the exotic pet talent at about level 69, I recommend going with a silithid, they have all the great spider abilities, plus their web ability stuns and they have a ability that increases your stamina, which is always a bonus in PvP.
