Greetings all.

It's been quite a while since I've contributed to these forums, but let me tell you, after 2 days reading, it's just like home… again!

I've been levelling other classes for a while (yeah, I know, sorry!) and have recently moved Darrywn to an Oceania server, changed his race, and his name… but I'll stay on here as Darrwyn just so you can continue to laugh at me and not think you're offending a newcomer.

Even though I haven't been adding to these pages for a while, Darrwyn remained actively farming leather, making leather and mail goodies and spending some time in both battlegrounds and heroics. He has now obtained not one, but two elite bows, and all elite armour, just needing some elite trinkets to be in all purple.

Having said that, I feel my DPS has been terrible :-((.

When I say terrible,  mean with an iLvl of 350 my DPS averages between 6 and icon_eek00k overall. Did I say terrible, I meant abysmal!

This has sent me off on some wild swings of speccing MM instead of SV, speccing BM/BM and all to no avail. Somewhere, and for the life of me, I can't find where, I found a macro that made some difference. To all the naysayers out there, this macro was giving me an improved DPS average of around 11000 overall, and it could work even better for others. As I said, I can't find it, but it went something like:

#showtooltip
/petattack
/castsequence Explosive Shot, Arcane Shot
/castsequence Cobra Shot
/cast Black Arrow

Now I believe the logic goes something like:

If Black Arrow is available, shoot it, else

If Explosive Shot is available, shoot it, follow it with Arcane Shot else

Shoot Cobra Shot

I have unfortunately lost the original macro and the site it came from, but it read something like above. I have also tried similar macros throwing in Kill Command and it works well.

I know however, that those of you who consistently average dps around 15 or 16000 don't use macros such as this and have each shot on a separate keybind and you have developed your hunter senses around choosing the correct shot for the circumstances. I applaud thee. I just can't get there myself.

Or can I?

I have found that by restarting a class at the beginning, I relearn the important lessons of lowbie life. I recently rolled a baby palladin and I believe it helped me with my L85 palladin a great deal. So I'm doing the same with a hunter. This time around, I'm going to level as a MM all the way, well far enough to feel comfortable as an MM hunter anyway. And you well might guess my race and name from the title of this article… yep, a Tauren hunter named Bullshott.

My experiences, revalations (if there are any) and anecdotes shall follow forthwith…

Good to see you back around Darrwyn! Welcome back to the lodge icon_smile I've also been toying around with another class and having a ball, don't have to be actively playing a hunter to come and talk some bull around the lodge! Good to see you around again, and look forward to some of Bullshot's adventures lol (great name btw!).

Welcome back Darrwyn. Like Drach, I don't exclusively play my Hunter. I have a Retribution Paladin I play here and there.

Hi all, Bullshott (aka Darrwyn) here. I started playing yesterday and in a couple of hours reached Level 13. I'd forgotten how fast hunters are to level. I only have 1 BOA piece and I joined a lvl 6 guild at level 10, so I've had a little assistance.

I've worked out a "rotation" that seems to work for me as a solo hunter and it goes something like this:

If not in combat,

Aimed Shot (petattack), Concussive Shot (start Auto Shot), Serpent Sting, Steady Shot, Steady Shot, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot

If already in combat,

Concussive Shot (start auto shot, petattack), Serpent Sting, Aimed Shot (if possible), Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot, Steady Shot, Steady Shot

I find that the time taken for the hard cast of Aimed Shot allows Violet (my predatory Plains Strider) to close to melee distance. Once Violet has agro, I can take the time to put in Aimed Shot, or if its closing on me, Arcane Shots. You may have noticed I am already placing my Steady Shots in pairs so that by the time I get the 15% haste buff, my routine will not have to adjust for it.

I am using my naughty castsequence macro for Kill Command:

#showtooltip

/cast !Auto Shot

/castsequence Kill Command

/cast Arcane Shot

/petattack

The logic being, if Kill Command is available, it will issue Kill Command, else it will fire off an Arcane Shot.

My focus regeneration is taken care of with:

#showtooltip

/cast !Auto Shot

/cast Steady Shot

/petattack

I have deliberatly only used Kill Command with the Arcane Shot focus dump so when I am trying to regenerate focus with Steady Shot I get maximum results.

Bullshott has just finished the Mulgore quests and has been sent by Blaine to report to Grommash Hellscream in Orgrimmar. New adventures await…

I think it's the end of the journey for Bullshott. Now he's at lvl 20, he has most of the shots I wanted to work with, and really only has Chimera Shot to go, and that's way down the track.

What he has done for me, is serve to re-assess my keybinds, so I could operate in a way that felt smooth and natural. I think I'm almost there.

Reading these pages again, I did get the hankering for a goblin hunter, with an engineering profession and so Flyntlock was born. Running Flyntlock through the first 14 levels has been really easy, because Bullshott did all the hard work.

The keybinds I'm working with are:

F1 Cooldowns (will be Rapid Fire and Trinkets)

F2 Hunter's Mark (and send in the beast)

F3 Aimed Shot

F4 Kill Shot

1  Serpent Sting

2  Chimera Shot

3  Arcane Shot (incorporating Kill Command in a macro…. see below)

4  Steady Shot

5  Concussive Shot

6  Tranquilizer Shot

Q Will be Feign Death

Shift W Rocket Jump

E Disengage

F will be Cleanse

G as always, mount

H as always, hearth

Shift S Deterrence

Z Health Pot

X Bandage (team mate or myself)

V Pet Macro (mend pet… etc)

Ran out of time, I'll post the macro later…
