Welcome!

Cool kids go SV, but you'll find most of the Hunters here (so it seems, anyway) are indeed BM. You'll find no lack of advice and pro tips on the spec. Enjoy your stay, the food's great!

Welcome to the forums!   I use BM for PvP – check out the articles and macros Gar has posted, huge help for me.   For everything else I run SV.

Welcome to the joint. According to the gurus at WHU all the hunter classes are pretty well balanced right now. Of course that's crap given that all the top DPS'ers are MM followed by SV with BM quite aways down the ladder.

That being said, those that can, play BM. Those that can't play Druids. Excluding all present company on these boards. It is as 'they' (the multinational conglommerate based out of Singapore) say, whichever class you enjoy playing the most is the one to play. Yeah, right….

Hello Talonkylor,

I believe that your specs should be the ones you enjoy. Right now, all three hunter specs are quite viable in both PvE and PvP, so there's no huge advantage or disadvantage to playing one over the other.

MM is arguably the best PvE spec right now on paper, but only by a very small margin. I like the play style of Survival, so I've just stuck with it for the past two years. My DPS is just fine.

I've always enjoyed PvP'ing as a Beast Master, so that's what I do. I typically play solo, or when I do arena, I play with another DPS. BM compliments my play style extremely well. I like the survivability and mobility that BM offers, coupled with the flick-of-the-switch burst.

If you don't like MM, then there's no reason to play the spec. However, if you are amenable to it, it is a very good spec for both PvE and PvP.

I''m actually wanting to give it a go myself, mainly because I haven't tried it since they reworked the talent trees.

Was talking to a BM hunter on drenden that only does heroics and told me on bosses they roll out  respective high numbers consistently, and i kinda want to get back into BM. But if it can't produce the same numbers as SV ( teether in current gear does 14k single target last time i played him with SV in heroics)

Like i said i'm loving BM but i want it to be viable, though i do love all the pets i've tamed so far. especially loque

BM is fine for instances, but it suffers more than the other specs on encounters that require lots of target switching. The glaring problem is that the use of BM's signature shot requires that your pet be within melee range in order to use it. Keep in mind that BM will outperform the other specs in situations where you're not switching targets, but on the move a lot, or if you need to LoS a boss for some reason. If your pet can stay active on one target throughout the course of the fight, then BM will shine.

Seriously, the best thing to do is to try it. If you can do more damage as a Beast Master with your current gear than you can as MM or SV, then it is the best spec for you.

People tend to play better when it's a spec they enjoy. Beast Mastery is by all means viable right now, so I'd go for it. The people that say it isn't are either just regurgitating some elitist crap that they read, or are some fanatical min/maxer type.

Bottom line is the specs are all very close right now. MM pulls ahead at the higher gear levels, which most of us won't see, but at the lower to mid-level range, all three specs are very close. Spec to BM and then run a few instances. Once you start feeling comfortable playing it, then start comparing the DPS to what you were putting out as SV. If it's more – stay BM. If it's very close, but you enjoy BM more, then stay BM. If it's less, then go back to SV.
