Finding gear in heroics

Hi,

I apologize for this question in advance, but I am a little stuck. I haven't played WoW in many years (since TBC). I just started again and rolled a Hunter. I got the Hunter to 85 and got him all the PvP gear I could. Now I am looking to go more into PvE with him. I'm looking for some gear to aim for but most gear in heroics or on the auction house seem like a lose in DPS.

I'm hoping someone can point me into the right direction.

Here is my armory link

Here's a link that has helpful gear to look for as you are leveling through dungeons, this link is just for regulars, but if you follow the link you can surf around and find the pre-raid list as well that will give you an idea of all the heroic loot that will help you out! Hope it helps!

The reason you're seeing a loss in DPS from PvP gear to PvE is because the lowest tier PvP gear has a higher item level than the lowest tier level 85 PvE gear. This results in slightly lower values of primary statistics, but this doesn't mean that it's bad, and you should almost never do PvE content with PvP gear.

The link Drach has given above is a great starter. Another thing that's different about Cataclysm from Burning Crusade is that heroic loot is exactly identical to normal loot, except for better numerical stats. Back in BC, normal and heroic drops were different. This will allow you to pinpoint which heroics you want to run the most.

Thanks for the link and replies!

I looked at the link, but I'm still a little confused to be honest. If I take the gear from that list and gem it and enchant it the same way my gear is now, I still lose AP. I May gain a little bit of crit and haste, but I'm not sure if it is enough to pay off.

For example, the link claims that the Windhome helm is a good starter for heroics and could even possibly be better than some heroic helms. However, my PvP helm seems a tad bit better.

With the windhome helm I would lose ~450 health, ~100 Attack Power, ~.51% Hit, ~.51 Mastery

I would gain ~.64% crit, ~1.27% haste.

That is similar for most of them.

When looking at dps, there is more to consider then just attack power. Your hit, crit, mastery, haste, etc all come into the picture.

Health is the least you should worry about among the primary statistics. PvE hunters are more concerned with putting out DPS. Windhome Helm is great for PvE because it has the the best possible socket bonus of equivalent 346-item-level helms.

It's difficult to compare performance by substituting just one piece of gear. You need to have almost a complete PvE set in order to notice the difference.
