Also how can I increase my mana pool or mana use per shot to spit out more shots before having to spam cobra shot or steady shot to build up again??? I dont seem to be able to get off as many shots as I use too???

We don't use mana anymore; it's all focus now. It forces us to have a properly managed rotation that weaves our largest damaging shots among Steady Shots and/or Cobra Shots to regenerate focus depending on your talent specialization.

I am working on the rep at the moment and I think I have the rep in Therazane to get that if I dont  must be close lol. Now what is it that has so many offside with hunters in parties??? I have lost count of the amount of instances and raids I could have gone on but as soon as they see or find out you are a hunter whooshhhhh your gone again Undecided I have even had that in my guild where they advertise a raid or heroic instance, I put my hand up and I get sorry we have all dps filled or they want a shamy or some damn excuse but are still asking and advertising for ranged dps for the run lol, one reason why I solo a hell of a lot, and while soloing if I see another in trouble I will dive in and help out, but I am finding out that I should be thinking dont worry about them just go your own way do your own thing because most of the time it is not appreciated. I got to 85 by soloing and when I was confident enough, started to use the random dungeon finder to run instances. It makes you feel like deleting the hunter and starting up a different toon just to get in with the crowd and not feel like an outcast lol, but wont do that I enjoy playing my hunter Laughing

Also how can I increase my mana pool or mana use per shot to spit out more shots before having to spam cobra shot or steady shot to build up again??? I dont seem to be able to get off as many shots as I use too???

(1) You need to have a rotation. A pretty much standard rotation for BM from what I have read and understand is:

Kill Command > Arcane Shot > Cobra x 2 (3 depending on haste rating)……repeat. Throw in Focus Fire when your pet has five stacks of Frenzy built up. Most BM players dont use Steady Shot, it usually a MM only thing.

(2) I see your spec'd into Improved Steady Shot. My recommendation is the following spec…..

http://www.wowhead.com/talent#…..RRofMMZz  . Again Improved Steady Shot is mainly  used by MM Hunters.

(3) There is a lot of grief involved being a Hunter. You have to truly love the class to make a go of it. The true Hunters, like those of us here on these forums learn to "roll with the punches" so to speak. Don't let what others say or do deter you from what you enjoy. Yes, it is hard when you cant get into instance runs, etc, BUT it is all about your enjoyment of the game and if you truly enjoy the Hunter class, dont give up.

Also, switching to a different class won't save you from the griefers. You get grief from people no matter what role you play. I spent a good part of Burning Crusade playing my Pallie tank and faced lots of comments about my sucky tanking and what not even though I did well at it. If you roll another dps class, you still face having to fight for spots in stuff as there is A LOT of dps around.

Basically it comes down to let your actions speak for you. Put effort to learning all the ins and outs of your chosen class so that you perform well when you do manage to get involved in something. It may be rough while you are earning yourself a good reputation, but eventually people will come around. Don't feel to bad if you still bump into people who don't allow you in because your a Hunter, I've been at Huntering since the very start of WoW and still find people that won't allow me in because of the bad stereotype we have.

Great stuff from Tak, only thing I would add to the rotation is Serpent Sting, start off with that and Kill Command, that way your Cobra Shot's all refresh the Sting, you may have to reapply as needed. Another thing is to use Beast Within as often as you can, you are able to get the cooldown to around a minute, so use as oft as you can icon_smile

Ok I see what you are getting at now and I will change my talents later today when I get time icon_smile As for shot rotation I was waiting say a 5 count then hit the target with cobra shot which gave the tank ample time to generate agro then I hit kill command and if a boss or hard to kill monster I hit beastial wrath then serpent sting and throw off some arcane shots then back to cobra shot repeat process lol. I will need to change a couple of my glyphs as well cause I thing one at least is arcane shot???

I ran blackrock heroic last night and got the amber messenger and equipped it with gnomish x-ray scope it is a slight improvement from the skypiercer I had before (still have it for now in bank) I was going to reforge it but the stats it gave me as a choice to reforge are all the ones you people have been telling me to add to so I didnt reforge.

Anyway I love playing the hunter and it will stay Laughing because I am mainly a solo player and I can bring out a tank pet or whatever is needed at the time and so many times I have been doing the dailies and seen other classes in trouble with what they have pulled and being a good person I just help out Tongue out but then again I have seen greedy people in other classes just pull what they can get in range so you do not get one of the targets and then I sit back and watch their health disappear lol Undecided. Well my hunter is getting there thanks to all of you here Wink

Drach you're back! I am so glad Blizzard managed to unfreeze you! You get frostbite?

Oh and yeah, all good advice.

Fortunately BM has a pretty simple Shot rotation once a person gets it down.

Prime BM glyphs are pretty basic. The Arcane Shot Glyph is quite important as it's the cast shot most often used by us Bm's, Kill Command and Kill Shot are about it for the other two slots.

I am now in a guild that is doing heroics and raids to help us all to build up our ilvl's but I have a problem with staying alive Undecided I seem to be the first to drop like a sac of potatoes and not that far into a boss fight either Frown I have been doing what the raid master is telling me to do but still it is not working. I need to do these runs to gain the points needed to get the rest of the gear that was suggested earlier in the post.

I just dont know what I am doing wrong but would like to know what I can do to get a bit more staying power in such fights Smile any suggestions????

Well, I'm sure it's already been suggested, but a helpful threat meter addon like Omen will help you realize how much threat you are pulling, and let you know when its a good idea to feign death and drop all of your threat, as well as when it is good to reapply Misdirection, which I'm guessing that you are doing at the start of fights?

If it is not threat that is killing you but simply placement and where to stand, a good idea is to look at the other ranged folks that are surviving, and mirror them, go where they go, stand where they stand, that is what I tend to do in new fights when I'm still learning the ins and outs of things. Keep at it, be a humble willing to learn hunter, which it sounds like you are, but just keep at it and see what others around you are doing to stay alive, and use the tips above to help manage your threat a bit better icon_smile

Not sure why you're getting ganked all the time or generating so much threat. Perhaps you are too close at the start. You may want to get in the habit of being on the move all the time while in the fight and as Drach said keeping distance-far far away is a good thing. It takes practice but in-between running heroics practice being on the move. That involves anticipating your next shot, actually forces you to and that's a good thing.

I'd strongly suggest reading Drach's article on the home page about trapping. It's about Crowd Control (essential in group so they tell me) but dropping a freezing or ice trap at your feet if mobs are on you can and will save your ass. Combined with disengage it can save your ass twice.

If you're now raiding as BM your spec is not optimized for the BM tree. Looks like you've a lot of wasted points in that build. The 3 pts in Steady Shot stand out given BM's typically use Cobra with the rare exeption of a boss that is immune to nature damage.  Maybe take a look at this. It's not the be all end all spec but it's close. It also explains why the Improved Serpent Sting Glyph you're using is not the optimum glyph for a raiding BM.

http://www.warcrafthuntersunio…..l-85-spec/

Now that you're revered you can pop over to the Mt Hyjal QM and get a decent neck slot item to replace that green thing showing up on your armory.

Your enchants and some of your equipped slots confuse me but several players in this thread have already advised you on all of that and how to obtain the obtainable items. Agility and stam-and you need both. If you aren't optimizing your spec, gear and enchants it's going to be a tough slog.

You've had a ton of exceptional input from some very skilled players here and one pathetically bad one (me). Hopefully you can implement it and you'll stop being the 1st to kiss the sprirt healer in a run when it all comes together for you. Takes time but I'm sure it will.

Best of luck.

Oh, you might want to put a Delicate Inferno Ruby in place of the Nightmare Tear you currently have on your belt.

Next: Now that you've done a respec on you and some re-equipping , try a respec on your ferocity pet.  Oh yes Mr. Taylormani-I have my eye on you. http://www.warcrafthuntersunio…..rocity.jpg

I don't agree with having both Dash and Boars Speed, maybe the pro raiders on here can add their thoughts on that. WHU is a great site but they are catering to the truly advanced players of which I'm not one.

Although it's not a direct boost to DPS, pet speed improves DPS since pets need to be within melee range to do damage. Boar's Speed just ensures that they can stick with the boss or switch targets with little melee damage down time.

I actually registered here to be able to post a reply as I accidentally stumbled across this thread while looking on Google about BM hunters.

So, short version: I play a BM hunter, with decent results I think … I can pull 22k on 10 man Argaloth and I can keep up in any dungeon above 17k (my gear is ilvl 353, no T11 piece). This is not bragging, this is just to say that BM can do good dps if played right.

BM is a cooldown dependent spec; there is nothing more important than timing your cooldowns appropiately. You can get from WHU site how to spec your talents and pet as well, after that is all about playing style.

Glyphs: I recommend Arcane Shot, Kill Shot, Kill Command for Prime, Bestial Wrath is a must for Major

Rules:

1. Bestial Wrath and Rapid Fire shouldn't be stacked … the current implementation of BW is around reducing focus cost for your shots (Arcane Shot) so Rapid Fire should be used after BW expires . How to use it: make sure you are around icon_eek focus, pop BW, spam KC and Arcane Shots.

2. Always use your Frenzy stacks in order to keep up the haste buff. The only exception is before a BW, leave the stacks on pet, as they will benefit more during BW.

3. Rotation: not really a rotation, is more a priority system: KC on cooldown, try to keep around 40 focus with 2-3 sec before KC cooldown resets, burn focus with Arcane Shot, then 2-3 Cobra Shot to rebuild focus (never use Steady Shot).

And also to cover some of the things mentioned here:

Boar Speed: you need it … when you have a fight where you switch to adds, is important to minimize the travel time for your pet

Dash/Dive: same as above … macro it with /petattack and use when you want to switch targets

Roar of Recovery: use it during BW

AoE: again, you want to save your BW for this … use an AoE pet (worm or chimaera), Explosive Trap and use BW with Multishot + Fervor .. you can have about 7-8 Multishots easily which do massive damage

BM is probably the most mobile spec of all so is very good on high movement fights … we tend to lose at bosses with air phases although we can minimize the impact there as well (save Rapid Fire / BW for the air phase).

On equal skill and gear, BM will not outdps MM, that is still the higher single target spec, but it will be quite close.

Hope this helps

I am getting there I have ilvl up to 348 now and I have found by trial and error ther the best shot rotation that has worked for me is as follows:

MD if needed

Consecutive Shot (Slows target down and allows pet to get there quick keeping the distance to make me effective)

Serpent Sting

Kill Command and whenever it is off cooldown

Beastial Wrath (if it is going to take a bit to kill the target)

Cobra Shot

Spam a few Arcane shots

Cobra Shots to regen focus

Kill shot (Whenever it is ready)

I have found in the last week or so when doing random cata instances that I am regularly having to hold back on my shots on single target bosses as i am now tending to match or better the tank Undecided and omen goes off lol..the tanks and DPS are not pulling large numbers and I am now on around 12k on longer fights, on trash not so good unless I use multi shot then run like hell or feign death cause i double the nearest DPS lmao. Tongue out

I have not as yet been through a full ZG/ZA instance, the 2 that I did get into have not really got past the 2nd or 3rd boss before something goes wrong like tank leaves party and we wipe lol but I have to get into there to raise my ilvl once again Smile I am still trying to get a couple of the things off the list earlier but all in all its all been good Wink
