OfflineThough I know most of you are yearning to know how you can actually achieve mediocrity while playing, a proper mindset still plays a crucial role in preparing you for greatness.
A smart hunter is a good hunter. You may find while huntering that you inadvertently find yourself improving. This is absolutely what we do not want happening and constant vigilance is required to avoid it. It is human nature, the desire to excel and improve (this excludes all 28+ yr olds living in their parents basement dreaming of ruling the world) and it must be mercilessly mashed like it's a Dustwallow Marsh Maggot.
Fortunately Blizzard has implemented a fantastic free tool to keep your smarts low. Yet to be surpassed and unlikely ever to be so, it is the crème de la crème of all tools. It is simply known as 'Trade Chat'.
This is truly a wonderful way to keep both your hunter and real life IQ at the appropriate mediocrity level. It is important to spend exactly 1 hr per week (no more and no less) parked in the major city of your choice simply reading the trade chat dialogue. No comments or effort are required on your part-just watch the wisdom scroll by. You will I promise, physically feel your IQ dropping without doing a thing! How awesome is that?
I am fortunate in this regard-I have two, yes two Auction House Alts to handle my enormous WOW business enterprise: Agio's Jewelcrafting & Attack Gerbil Emporium which supports my out of control Flask of the Winds habit. This entails me spending upwards of 5-6 hours a week trying to actually trade in trade chat which as you will find has nothing at all to do with, you know trading.
Any time longer than 1 hour in Trade Chat begins a Trade Chat osmosis, potentially life threatening. You start to drool, you become incoherent, your fingers attack the keyboard uncontrollably and you begin spamming; asking other hunters questions such as "HAY Wear R the Stormwind Basketball Corts Att?" because you want to go practice your Jump Shot.
Also it has real life implications; you may put mayo in your coffee or coffee in your mayo or wander out of the house clad in nothing but your "Dwarfs are Hawt" skivvies asking strangers on the street if they need a Delicate Inferno Ruby cut.
Remember the goal here is to find that ideal level of stupid essential to mediocrity. A blathering helpless idiot gains sympathy and some kind soul such as lawman30, Niika or others of their superb character may take pity on you and try to help and worst of all, they may actually help. This is self-defeating and to be avoided at all costs so keep your exposure to trade chat at a maximum of 1 hour per week. I’ve found it the ideal amount of time to achieve the delicate balance between just stupid enough and certifiable.
In Part Three we will be addressing how Curiosity does indeed kill the Cat.
