So, How hard would it be to create a profile section on this site that would run like facebook or myspace. Photo albums and a wall to post random tid-bit's about what your doing.
Allowing comments on photo's so on so forth or can the servers not handle such a thing. Not talking about anything elaborate.

As it stands, this site requires a hefty $71/mo. managed VPS. Implementing functionality like that would no doubt force me to a dedicated, to the tune of about $175-$200/mo. Also, a move like that would make managing this site a full-time job, rather than just a part-time one like it is now.
However… I can't say I won't at least look into it.

Back when FFXI 11 first took off the site FFXIAH.com started and it was hugely elbaorate. They started an option to be able to donate to the site to help fund it and keep it going.
While I'm sure you'd want to stay away from seeming scandalous they did however implement a section that when you donate it showed your characters name and how much they did donate to the site that way everyone was aware of how much/little was actually going to the site.
It's honestly been surprising to me that their isn't a myspace/facebook type of thing for WoW players and their character yet… at least not one thats effective.
While the entirety of WoW seems to be way to much, possibly just catering to 1 large class on WoW may start a social network revolution.

Check out FFXIAH for yourself. you can view the donation area and see that it is active. The game has pretty much died in the last 5-6 years since WoW took over so you don't see much consistency but when FFXI was the leader of MMO donations were practically paying for the fee on top of being able to update the site intensely.
While most of us don't see ourselves paying to keep a site running I'm actually amazed at how many WoW players have money to throw around randomly in every which way.

Perhaps if you do try to implement this you could talk with whoever is running petopia. It seems like a small set-up over there that has really become popular among us hunters

Am I the only one here where stuff like this gives me the willies? I don't mind sharing personal information or my photo in a closed venue, but I can't see myself doing it openly.

Not the only one, I'm happy to post a picture or two, and maybe leave my name around, but more than that I prefer to keep amongst those closer to me. Especially on sites where registration is as easy as it is here.

Well would you look at that, Niika. We share two links and we find out that we were maybe,probably,possibly drunk at some party, event, or shindig at some point in the last year, month, years, days and now we are on the coolest forum in the world together! Now that is sweet.

My online personality and offline are very similar. due to bubbliness, i guess, I've a tendency to pick up strays along the way life. I don't mind doing it with you guys, who are open, it's the strays who read and somehow find me that frighten the bejeezers out of me. I guess it doesn't matter if you are a guy, but i've learned the hard way to be cautious in life. No dampers, party on!
