In the past, I'd use scorpid sting to end the DoT that is placed on a target hit with wyvern sting after their CC is broken.  Otherwise, that DoT would break other CC used against the target.  After it was hit with scorpid sting, the DoT would be removed and I could either trap it or just hit it again with wyvern sting.  I hadn't thought of it till now, but wasn't scorpid sting removed?  If so, anyone have a good idea how to use wyvern as a solid CC ability?  Does the wyvern DoT break the sleep effect of a new wyvern sting?

I would suggest just have WS be used on a second target for the kill.   It's a great short term but for sure not reliable as you said.

I looked and didn't see scorpid sting myself either =/  Other thing I could say is use your trap to start and only use wyvern sting as a OMGHS moment.

Indeed Scorpid Sting is gone. It was something I noticed missing right away because as MM Hunter I used it alot for the disarm with Chimera Shot.

I think this is another BS "by design" change. Other classes probably didn't appreciate the fact that we could chain CC so effectively using that technique.

I haven't played as a hunter yet in Cata, but as far as I know, we don't have any other stings apart from Wyvern & Serpent, thus no other non-damaging shot to overwrite it.

I'd imagine though that another SV hunter could reset the CC by casting another Wyvern during the DoT, but unless you rolled with another SV hunter guildie in rated BGs, I hardly see where that would apply in practical circumstances.

This is a very annoying change, especially since they changed the cooldown on Wyvern Sting to 1 min so there's no way to chain CC a target with it at all now anyhow.

For the record, at the moment ALL hunter stings are unique. So 2 SV hunters can have Wyvern Sting on the same target at the same time. Another hunter hitting your Wyvern Sting target after it wakes up and the dot starts ticking will not remove your Wyvern Sting dot, it will just be put to sleep till your dot ticks then wake up.

What this all means is that Wyvern Sting is now a 'once and done' CC. You can use it to take a target out of the fight for 30secs, and after that you'll be unable to CC the target till the dot falls off. Though since most other forms of CC now absorb some amount of damage before breaking someone else could CC the target and it's possible your dot won't break the CC and at the least you'll get a few seconds out of it.

On a lighter note, Cobra Shot does currently extend the duration of the Wyvern Sting dot so you can keep that rolling on a target if you're quick and you want to keep it up. Saddly, even though the Wyvern Sting dot ticks faster than Serpent Sting it does far less damage and doesn't benefit from any of the talents that Serpent Sting does. This means it's crit rate is terrible, it doesn't provide the 10% bonus damage that Serpent Sting does, and it does far less damage even though it ticks on a 2sec timer instead of Serpent Sting's 3 sec. Currently it's far better to remove the Wyvern Sting dot with Serpent Sting which makes me sad because once upon a time in the not so distant past Wyvern Sting was our best dot by far and I always wished we could use it more often, now it's just gimpy and faily useless beyond the 'once and done' CC that it provides.
