Pumping out More DPS

I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on increasing my DPS. Here's my armory

http://www.wowarmory.com/chara…..;cn=Ravlek

My damage seems a lot lower than not only other classes, but other hunters as well. I usually do about 2.6k dps in heroics, depending on AoE pulls. In 25-Mans, I can almost reach 5k. I regularly see other hunters with 5.5k+ gs pushing 7k or more in raids. Should there really that much of a gap? I was also wondering about if marksman would be a dps increase for me. FemaleDwarf says it would be a loss at my gear levels, but I'm not sure. Thanks for any and all help!

p.s. I was turned down for an ICC 10 man the other day because the raid leader said I needed a 5.6k or more gs. Is that to be expected or are his expectations too high?

(1) What spec do you raid in?

(2) Is the gear on your armory what you raid in? If so, you need to replace your cloak, belt and boots. PvP gear for PvE is not doing you much good. I would also recommend a upgrades to some of the other gear. Run some heroics and get badges.

(3) You are missing several enchants. You need enchants done on your shoulders, chest, bracers, gloves, legs and boots. Gar has a great enchant guide here: http://huntsmanslodge.com/gars…..r-enchants

(4) All this gear score crap people are doing now makes me want to carve my eyes out with a rusty spoon. People need to be considered for their abilities not gear score. I will give you an example of how stupid this idea this is.

A guildie/friend of mine was in an ICC25 raid. There was a DK in there that had REALLY crappy dps. I mean this was really low dps, almost like he was just auto attacking. However, he was allowed in the raid because he had a really high gear score. When my friend looked at this DKs gear, he had gear with stats that no DK in their right mind would use. Spellpower, spirit, stuff like that. The thing was though, all of the pieces he had were high on gear score points, therefore jacking his gear score up.

Thanks for the advice. I raid in survival spec and in that gear. I realize that I shouldn't be wearing those PvP pieces, but they are the best pieces I currently have for those slots. I will go and get enchants for the other pieces, and hopefully that will help. I found the anecdote hilarious.

About the GS thing….that concept (measuring "usefulness" per gear) has been around since raiding became popular.

In Vanilla™, the determining factor was the amount of purple items you had (it was hard to get them back then).

At some point it changed to iLevels (can't remember exactly when).

Here's my take on this (/opens Pandorina's Box)…

As has been said so often it's now cliché, nothing can substitute player skill.  Unfortunately for most players that skill isn't known outside of your usual guild/group/friends.  And seeing as how most people rush through every instance as quick as they can, your skill never gets a chance to come to the surface, nor does it get recognized when it does become apparent.

So while I agree wholeheartedly with Tekaas' 4th point, I will concede that there does need to be a quick method to determine if that unknown mage your bringing into ICC25 is gonna cut the mustard, or need to be wiped off the floor after every pull.  I just wish people would learn to use the tool more as a quick "No way in Hell would this guy last in this dungeon" vs "I want to run this as fast and easy as possible so everyone must be top-tier" overview.

This whole gear score thing makes me glad I raid with the guild I'm in. If I pug something and they dont let me in, I just shrug my shoulders and move on, their loss. I clearly have better knowledge of the game then they do.

GS is not a good indicator of skill, period. It is a good indicator of how often you run, or how much gold you have, (or in some cases how much you eBay!!!).   I couldnt get into hardly any PuG's for ICC, even with a hard-earned 5500 gs! When I made it to 5500, pugs started asking for 5600+ It was so frustrating! So the hunt for a raiding guild began! One pug icc 25 run with my current guild and they were begging me to join while I was begging to be let in, in the same chat moment lol. Will NEVER PuG again.

Progression CAN be made through pugging, it isnt easy, but it is possible! If you can save yourself the frustration by joining a raiding guild, I highly recommend it.

And yes i think 5600 IS too high of an expectation when they are basing it solely on gs…. If you can play your class well, you can handle icc with a 5k gs easily! Just a matter of how well you play… too bad there isnt an addon to tell people that! *hint coders*

Ok been looking at your gear.

First of all, doing dungeons you will quickly get enough emblems of triumph to remove those pvp items.

In my honest opinion you shouldnt even be doing 25 man raids before gearing up properly through heroic dungeons. Expeptions being VOA10/25 and the weekly to get frost emblems.

You are missing lots of enchants, leg armour and gems. And get epic gems. Agility all the way for a SV.

Go work on sons of hodir – you have lots of achievement points still you havent done the sons of hodir rep to get your shoulder enchant?

Sack herkuml war totem and go to AH and buy Greatness – it has low gs but is MUCH superior for a SV hunter.

You are a dwarf – get a gun and make use of that nice racial you got.

Def. go with 20 AGI gems for Surv. They boost your DPS significantly. ARP is for MM Hunters with OP Gears. And, as everyone has said before. Enchant your gear. Do this and you'll be ready in no time.

I also have a Belt of the Ardent Marksman:

http://www.wowhead.com/item=45827

Is it worth replacing my pvp belt for it? it has 18 more agility, but loses 59 crit.

I would at least give it a try.  Agility will affect other stats as well as crit.  Remember to socket it, and put in another agi gem, and go let'em rip!
