One of our best raiders is an 11 year old boy. He can and will do anything we ask him to do. He's amazing in boss fights, and I usually have him teaching the older members of our guild, since he's very direct and extremely polite. He's been in Bees for several years now.
..then he gets in vent and people are like "…are you serious?? he's HOW old?"

My boy is a game junkie like his parents, so I have no doubt he'd be really good at it. I just cant see exposing him to a lot of that BS. I don't know how yalls servers are, but ours is HORRIBLE when it comes to rude, ignorant, shit-talking folks. There is a group of about 25 people who dont actually play the game, they just sit in trade 24/7 talking shit about every random person who happens to speak in trade, it's quite sad, or they go on and on about the most vile things. My ignore list is maxxed out and unless I actually need something I stay out of trade chat altogether.

We keep guild chat PG13 for the most part, and he's got filters on, is not allowed into trade or general chat, and isn't on vent unless it's a guild function. His parents play too. Moon Guard is an rp server, so we have additional idiocies that are to be aware of (hello Pornshire and Cybermoon) so his parents, both gamers, are on their toes. He's just damn happy to be leading grown adults around by the nose during boss fights, and is always on his best behavior so he doesn't loose game time. i'ts interesting.
I can see where you are coming from. I think Trade Chat on any server is like a gross example of The Idiot's Guide to Stupidity; Level to 
in 10 Days or Less.

Trade Chat is pretty much the cesspit of any server at this point, not much you can do except ignore it, or as I sometimes do, blast the fools and make them shutup for a while.
But honestly, trying to shelter your child from that online doesn't save them from facing it every day in other area's, not just from adults, but often from other children.

We actually use Suicide Kings, but a little but modified as things have come up in our guild. I have been in 2 other guilds my entire wow career. One used EP/GP and the other a modified roll Loot Council. The SK list just seems to be the simplest.
Indomitus has a point about trade chat stuff going on elsewhere in a childs life, can't always protect and shelter them. But wow does have some good steps in place to protect them from that. Personally I rock 5 chat tabs. 1- normal Chat..part..raid.. guild 2 Whispers. (I'm notorious for missing tells) 3 Combat log. 4 Officer chat 5 Trade/General. That way I only have to look at it when I need to.
