Getting TOTALLY ganked! - Builds, Talents and Class Mechanics - Hunter Forums

Hey there everyone!
I'm sort of new on the site, so I hope someone hasn't asked this question before making me look silly! O.o
Okay so I have a few other characters, but I've been playing my hunter a lot lately. She's level 63 and I play her mostly in PVP. Trouble is, I get totally ganked- ALWAYS. It doesn't matter what spec I am; I've tried them all and found survival the best but I'm still always last on DPS in dungeons and I get one or two shotted in PVP and die at least double the amount of times as any other players- even mages or warlocks! You can take a look here http://eu.wowarmory.com/charac…..=Starfeets . Her gear obviously isn't amazing being mid-level! ^-^
So what gives?! Does anyone have any ideas? I love my hunter but I'm starting to think I'm just really bad at playing it- I'm on the verge of giving up… ='[
I hope someone can help- I need a knight in shining armour desperately!! Feets <3
Well my first question for you is, are you willing to spend gold on it? When I level low level toons in BGs I have them enchanted to the best they can. Lots of stam!! Your gear looks great, you know the stats.
One that I would highly suggest is Tuskar's The speed increase and the stam are nice.
On my lowbie hunter, there are just some classes that are just amazing in PvP- with people getting there signature moves at level 10, some are just out of the world. But it really is all about be aware of those around you and being the one to get the upper hand to start.
Keep at it, lower levels is more so being aware of the classes around you, knowing how to counter them, or being the one to get on the ball first.

Hey thanks for responding! =]
I don't mind spending gold enchanting good items, but I'm not super rich so I wouldn't bother enchanting easily replaceable greens- I'd enchant something that was at least going to last a few levels.
I'm not expecting to be able to kill the likes of priests or paladins on my own, because at the moment that is literally impossible, both are very overpowered in pvp. The thing is that I wondered whether EVERYONE in pvp has the best of the best gear and enchant wise even at lower levels? Because they all seem to have much more powerful attacks and a lot more health, and I'm not sure if this is a class thing or a gear thing. Is Survival the best spec for me to use?
I also find myself very focus starved- I was doing fine before the patch but now I can only use 2 shots and I'm starved of focus- the 1.75 sec cast time of steady shot is a real fail in pvp! =S
Thanks again, I really am grateful! =]
Feets,
I get where you're coming from. Even as an
, for a long time in BG's, I simply got ganked. Every time. The dungeons always found me at the bottom of the pile, and I was hardly worth anything to the group. But I will tell you this: just give it some time. You'd be amazed at how a few minor gear changes can boost your DPS.
The biggest thing, however, is to stay patient. You are only level 63, so, if anyone gives you trouble for having low DPS: remind them of that. Your job right now is to get to
(4 days until Cata! HUP 2, 3, 4) and it shouldn't have to be worrying about DPS or PvP. Although, to truly diagnose the problem, it would be helpful to have your general shot rotation. SR is one of the hardest things to get down well, especially as a Survival hunter, but is one of the best boosters of DPS.
On top of this, keep in mind that at your level, Hunters are not the best. DK's (due to their little gear boost at level 5
, Pallies, and priests are going to be a challenge for you your whole Hunter carreer. I have grown to hate Paladins, and I used to openly run from priests
. But Hunters can grow to be one of the biggest assets in the entire game, and one of the most powerful. I can't give you gear suggestions seeing as you are level 63, but the stats you're looking for are pretty simple: agility, stam, resilience, hit rating.
Throw up a reply with a little more detail on these fronts so I can talk to your use of traps, abilities, talents, pet, trinkets, and gear. Hope you the best in ganking your enemies,
Huugg

Offline(1) Don't take it personally if you are not currently doing great at PvP. Everyone that PvPs has started where you are at. You have to develope a tough skin and take your beating until you can get the gear and knowledge it takes to do good in PvP. I've been at it for years and still get thrashed by certain classes. Just keep your chin up and taking your lumps. It will eventually get better.
(2) A general mistake I have seen Hunters make in battlegrounds when starting out is charging in at the head of the group into a fight. That's a no-no. You should be concealing yourself by being in the thick of the group or behind them. In a way, we are like a ranged Rogue. We are best when catching someone off guard. Going head to head, we will find thing more difficult.
(3) Yes, a good percentage of the people in battlegrounds have the "top" gear for their level. They most likely have a higher level character or a higher level friend helping them acquire enchants and gear.
(4) Currently Survival Hunters have the worst focus regen. Even as Marksmaship I find that I have to find spots to stop and fire off a few Steady Shots if I can. It's not always something you can do in PvP. As I haven't played a lowbie Hunter since the switch to focus, I'm not real sure about going about regenerating focus. There isn't a lot of lower level gear with haste on it for Hunters from what I've seen. Haste helping your focus regen.
(5) If the other class is a healer, you're not going to kill them solo unless they suck at it. Most you can do is distract them. Often times I will go after a healer, know that I can't kill them, but will hopefully keep them busy enough that they aren't getting off the proper heals to their comrades. Its helpful here to have a pet with some sort of debuff that interrupts or slows healing cast times.

Hey! Thanks for the response. =]
I do obviously stick to the stats you've mentioned- whilst levelling I wear a leather heirloom chest for extra XP but I do have a mail one normally.
In PVP I usually help to defend- so for that I lay down freezing trap and explosive trap (which are useful for making Lock and Load proc). The rotation I use tends to be something along the lines of Serpent Sting, Explosive Shot, Steady Shot (however many times it takes for enough focus to build up) and then arcane shot, whilst trying to keep up Explosive Shot and Serpent Sting for the damage over time. I steer away completely from Multishot, which actually lowers my dps even in large mobs.
My pet in PvP is a crab, for pin- though I've been told monkeys make good pvp pets too. I have a fox and a hound (like the movie! ^-^) for DPS pets. I have similar talent trees for all of my pets, talenting for critical strike, (such as Spiked Collar) and speed (especially Dash).
I have a PvP trinket at the moment which I useful removing one stun or fear effect. I could probably use some advice concerning glyphs- to me none of them seem that great for a survival hunter!
Thanks again, I hope this helps!! =]
(Also, I think I need to take a leaf from your book and RUN from certain classes!! xD)
