Hey out there,
Would like to get some insight on what I can do to increase the DPS on my level
hunter.
http://www.wowarmory.com/chara…..cn=Rkuttie
This is my first hunter and I really enjoy the class. I mainly PvE and PvP until recently I started doing raids using the dungeon finder.
Majority of the time other players tell me that I should be "pulling" at leats 3K dps with the gear I have. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I checked my dps against a level
practice dummy and my dps ranged from 1K to 2K tops. Any help is much appreciated.

Ok, you are in pvp gear. I hope that you have a PVE set for when you do PVE, and that you have enchants and gems for it.
I don't agree when people say you should do more dps. I am surprised you even do 3k. No offense, but I am not helping you if I am not honest.
First of all: Your rifle isn't even a hunter rifle!!! It's got the wrong stats. You need to change it ASAP.
Also, you really shouldn't be in BM spec – it's the lowest dps spec atm.
You need to change all those gems to agility gems.
You need to have correct enchants.
I see you are a leatherworker. To get the benefit of that, furlining in bracers etc, you need to up you skill level.
I am sure there is a lot more, but at least this is a start.

OfflineI would like to get more information from you before making more advice. It doesn't make sense to change gems and enchants at this time, since your gear is PVP, and you are asking for help with your PVE spec and need PVE gear. What do yo have for badge gear, how many Triumph and Frost badges do you have, and what does your rotation look like?
Giving you homework as well. If you wish to continue raiding, the information at http://huntsmanslodge.com/5431…..master.htm can help you immensely. BM at the lower gear levels is fine, and just smile and thank whomever is giving you advice if they are not a hunter. You may want to change to another spec later, but in the meantime, I feel the more important task is learning the difference between PVP stats and PVE stats, rotation, gear, and such. I think running 5-mans, which you seem to be a pro at, BM is fine. It's easy to learn on, and you can get a rhythm going that will benefit you at higher levels. Also look at http://huntsmanslodge.com/the-…..st-mastery for some great advice.
Now, get your hands on as many Triumph badges as you can, and get at least two pieces of the t-9 gear. Gem agi in red and blue, gem agi/crit in yellow, add +10 All Stats in one blue slot to proc the Insightful meta, place enchants on the agi and AP side, then give it a try.

OfflineNiika has a prettty good reply, so I'm just going to add to my advice to it.
(1) Tweak your spec. If BM is what you want to go with I suggest you do a big overhaul of it. Follow the first link that Niika provided for a good idea on what a good spec is.
(2) Get yourself a different ranged weapon. Despite what some people say, Hunters should not be using that gun. It's a warrior stat stick.
(3) Don't let people tell you BM isn't a viable spec in raiding. Yes, it does fall short when compared to a geared MM Hunter, but BM can put out some good dps. The ICC10 raid I am in, we have all three specs of Hunter in it. The BM Hunter keeps right up with us. He puts out 7k or better dps. I will also add that you should play what spec you have fun with. Don't let the dps meter control how you spec.
Rkuttie,
If you can afford to train your dual specialization right now, then do it. Unless you plan on respeccing and re-glyphing before every raid, there's no way to have one build that's really great for both aspects of play.
If you can't afford dual specs yet, then I understand. In that case, respec to this build asap:
http://www.wowhead.com/talent#…..tzeVoo:0Vb
This build will do quite well in both dungeons and in BGs.
The specs you have for you and your pet are a mess right now (no offense). You have what's called a hybrid build, which means it's a pretty mediocre build with no real strengths. The bad news is, you've got a build that is a model for "how-not-to-do-it" – the good news is… it's easily fixed and you will be turning things around in no time.
I highly suggest looking over the Beast Mastery PvE guide linked in earlier posts within this thread. That will give you an idea on how to talent, gem, enchant, prioritize your abilities, etc…
For PvP, have a look at this post for a preferred build: http://huntsmanslodge.com/5560…..-redux.htm
I also suggest having a look at this page; reading any of the guides whose titles make you go hmmm…?

After you do a little homework, feel free to return with further questions. It'll be easier to assist you in specific areas once you've grasped the fundamentals.

OK, sorry, someone got instulted. It is true though – BM is the lowest dps spec – no questions about it.
A BM hunter does not pull 13k in ICC. A good MM and a good SV does though.
If you decide to stay BM then your gems should be attack power.
Follow the sound advice you got here about badges and collecting PVE gear.

OfflineIt's cool Dio – he's also not in ICC. When giving advice to a hunter, I tend to look at what they are running, and what they want to do *right now.* I've had plenty of personal advice from well-intentioned people telling me to go MM/Arpen when I was still wielding a bow from Kara. Have just learned you have to move up a staircase step-by-step, rather than trying to jump from the bottom rung to the top. He'd face-plant that way.
I have a warrior friend who kept teasing me, calling me a huntard, etc. I challenged him to level a hunter. He did. Two nights ago, he told me it's one of the most intricate classes he's ever played, and recanted all the teasing he's ever done to me. He's in ICC10 gear now, and having a very difficult time, but immensely enjoying the challenge.
It made me all warm and fuzzy.

Epic advice.
I love your analogy, and best of all, it makes perfect sense.
Well said.

Niika, yeah I know the type.
I have played hunter for years and so many times I have had comments about "hunter being the easiest class", "huntard this, huntard that" etc. I don't bother to reply any more, but I think "so how come so many well geared hunters still can't dps?".
Hunter is a refined class that requires a lot of skill. It's a beautiful, intelligent class. I love it.
skill>gear
But ok, sure, some situations it is easy, like when you are mining or herbing and get attacked by mobs and you don't even react as your pet will "deal with it". Hehe.

One of the many perks I love of the class! I prefer mining on my Hunter over my Paladin any day.

Thanks, Gar. A funny little side note. I thought about the analogy, then thought about how we hunters have a strong tendency to stick together. Then I thought of that night Sun went a bit loopy, offering drunken "words of encouragement (lol not)" then started giggling IRL thinking that would be a hell of a faceplant. (and have been there, done that, myself.)
Hunter is a refined class that requires a lot of skill. It's a beautiful, intelligent class. I love it.
Gawd, Dio, that is a great sentence. Sad that you have to actually HAVE a hunter in order to appreciate that statement. By the way, I do think that hunter is now that warrior's favorite class. He's sure acting like it, even if he's not said it.
Tak, me too. I am farming continuously now, and I choose Niika over my DK, who can both skin and weed, doubling the income, any day.

OfflineI could afford dual specialization – straight out the gate, what would be the best for DPS.
I see that! Looks like you are still noodling out that second spec, and we got all nostalgic Hunter-Lovey-Dovey in our mutual admiration society, so i'm going to toss my two cents in based on gearing and recommend going MM. Of the three specs, *to me* it is the easiest to swap from PVP to PVE and back again. Do you have a plan for non-resistence gear? When you do, stay away from the stam gems you are fond of, and go all agi, or agi/crit with only one blue slot filled with a +10 all stats. Attack power or agi on enchants. (hears the guys rolling their eyes at my redundant advice.)
Gar's guide here has some great starter advice. http://huntsmanslodge.com/the-raiding-hunter-marksmanship Give it a try.

Ok,
Changed the BM build and was easily averaging 2.2K – 3.2K damage, that's a 1K dps increase without changing gear or gems.
Got the dual spec as MM, followed the suggestions for the builds and rotations, averaging 3.5K – 5.5K dps and again without changing gear or gems.
WOW….again no pun intended, what a difference.
I plan to pick up 2 tier nine gear pieces over the weekend and change out some the blue socket stam gems with agi, or agi/crit or attack/armor pen.
What are some recommended minor glyphs for MM spec.
Great insight by all….much appreciated.

OfflineRkuk – when you get your two t-9's, plan them so you can hold onto them as long as possible. The set bonus, for me, helps a lot.
There are also gloves and I think leggings that drop in VoA that can help you along. Be sure to be there, every week. Great high-level gear with little effort other than suffering a pug.

Hey All,
It's been a while since I posted. I've running mostly 5 mans and was able to pug one 10 man.
I got two tier 9, hands and legs and they are working great.
With all the "Triumph" badges I was able to get the full "Windrunners Conquest" set of 5 pieces. I eventually switched out the head, shoulders and chest pieces for gear that has better stats.
http://www.wowarmory.com/chara…..cn=Rkuttie
I have not had one complaint about low DPS since switching to the suggestions made by the group.
However people are "obsessed" with telling me that the gun I have is not for a hunter. Since this is my best ranged dps weapon I don't have much choice but to use it.
I have inspected other hunters and found that their ICC bows have the same gear score and hunter score as my gun.???
I have not had any luck trying to pug into ICC to get a better ranged weapon.
Still building up "Frosties" for "Ahn'Kahar Blood Hunter's Battlegear" - but very slow…..pugging 10 and 25 man is a pain in the butt-inski and the two "frosties" you get from daily will take forever. Any insight on a quicker way?
Thanks All….
