OfflineI've been lurking / making notes for a few weeks and have had some increase in DPS thanks to the information here but I'm still very low on the DPS meters and frustrated so I figured it was time to just get brave and ask for help. In most cases I'm not even getting above 3
0 in ICC. I recently went to a new guild and am terrified to even attempt a 25-man ICC with my current output so any assistance would be appreciated.

SV as main spec, considering dropping BM and attempting MM but since I'm already lost I'm not sure if that is a wise move. I have added 2 of the power auras from the page on this site (thank you very much) and they have helped me manage my mana and pet health so I can focus on my DPS levels rather than constantly looking up to see where I am.
Shot rotation: Black Arrow, Explosive Shot, Steady Shot, Serpent Sting, Kill Shot when up, lots of Volley on the adds.
Guru Elixir in Instances, Flask of Endless Rage in ICC
Thanks in Advance

Well, if you're not opposed to a MM spec- I'd say give it a try. you seem to have a bit of ARP and decent gear to pull it off. The two trinkets you have in my opinion are less than useful given how much hit you already have so you may want to try for ARP or Crit (or Attack Power if you go BM). I believe* you aim for 8% approx, but I could be wrong. I'm more of an experienced melee/ healer. I pull about 3k dps and I'm still in 200-232 gear (well, I have the wrathful PVP because that's what I'm going into) and that's out of ICC so I'm not sure what happened there.
Do you have a DPS specced wolf that you're raiding with? Is he out + attacking?
In rotations I personally like to open up with my dots closest to the front as well, doesn't have to be the very first but try. It will do damage on its own while you're finishing off your CD's in your rotation thus giving you a tiny boost ![]()

First of all your rotation is all wrong. Think of a priority list Top priority Kill Shot, Explosive Shot, Black Arrow, Serpent Sting, Aimed Shot and Steady Shot. Get an addon to help you know which of your shots to use until you know it by heart.
Second, don't go MM. You don't have the gear or the Arp for it.
Your ranged weapon is very weak. Try to get at least the ICC10 man normal mode Lady D bow.
Change your AP gems to agility gems.
For flasks use Elixir of Mighty Agility.
Your SV spec is a little odd. Why not go with the standard 0/15/56 until your gear allows you to toy around with it a little?
Good luck!

OfflineJust to add some stuff here:
(1) Your ranged weapon is one of the top things bringing your dps down. Till you can get something from ICC10/25 I recommend running H. Pit of Saron and getting the Felglacier Bolter http://www.wowhead.com/item=50262
(2) Swap out your Hunter's Mark glyph for Serpent Sting. Serpent Sting glyph is one that every spec of Hunter should have.
Hi Abby,
Try a build like this: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#…..edAhsk:NfA, making sure to follow the glyph suggestions as well.
The armory isn't showing me your pet's build, but it should be this: http://www.wowhead.com/petcalc…..00sc00hooo.
The biggest problem I see with your gear is that you're waaaay over-hit-capped. The highest you can have in PvE is 8%; you're at 17.7%. Every point of hit rating above 263 is just wasted. You have 581 hit rating, which means you have 318 points that are doing nothing for you, and instead could be used for other stats such as crit or armor pen.
Now I understand that a lot of ICC gear is loaded with hit, but you've also gemmed for hit in 2 places.
Your trinkets aren't doing much for you, which translates to a huge DPS loss. Trinkets are a valuable source of DPS, but the ones you're using both have hit as their primary stat, and again, you're getting nothing from it. I'd suggest buying DMC: Greatness (if you can afford it) and running H FoS for Needle Encrusted Scorpion. Whispering Fanged Skull is another nice option if you can get it (10 man ICC / 2nd boss). Any combination of those three trinkets would give you a noticeable increase in DPS.
You may want to have a look at this post: http://huntsmanslodge.com/5869…..rating.htm
As a Survival hunter, you should be enhancing your gear with agility wherever possible. You have some attack power gems, as well as 32ap on your boots. I recommmend swapping those out for their agility based counterparts.
You should have Massacre on your 2H. You have an ilvl 251 2H, which is certainly worth Massacre (110AP).
Put the crit/ap leg kit on your pants. The leg kit you're using is one I'd suggest for PvP, but not for dungeoning and raiding.
Alrighty… so being the ever-helpful hunter… I went ahead and plugged you into Zehera's spreadsheet so that I can show you what the return on your investment will look like… ![]()
Your best-possible DPS right now is 8178.93
For the price of a respec and one glyph, you can add a little over 4.5%, ~379.5DPS.
This figure may actually be higher depending upon how your pet is specced. If your wolf is specced any different than what's shown in my build, then you'll gain even more.
Just changing your build (and pet build if needed) will bring you to 8558.43 best-possible.
If you swap out those gems (40 ap for 20 agil, 20ap/10hit for 10agil/10crit) you'll gain almost 90 additional dps.
Here's a funny one…
Darkmoon Card Greatness, which happens to be an ilvl 200 trinket, will provide you with over a 200 DPS upgrade over that of your ilvl 245 Mark of Supremacy.
Needle Encrusted Scorpion will add about 110 more dps over that of the Pyrite Infuser.
Let's recap:
Your current DPS: 8179
Your DPS can go to…
- 8558 if you follow my respec and re-glyph suggestions
- 8647 if you regem, re-enchant/upgrade a couple enchants, use the DPS leg armor
- 8852 if you spring for DMC: Greatness
- 8962 if you get ahold of NES
Best case scenario, your DPS goes up by about 10%, which is really huge. However, it sounds like maybe you're having some trouble with shot priority and mechanics. While I can guarantee results if you follow my talent and itemization advice, you're going to have to work on the other part yourself. Regardless of what sort of upgrades you adhere to in this post, the biggest gain is going to come from getting your shot priority down and getting the most from your abilities and cooldowns.
This article should be of some help: http://huntsmanslodge.com/the-…..r-survival
I hope some of this helps. ![]()
Feel free to follow up if you have other questions.

OfflineWow – thank you! My weapon is a weak link, no doubt about it. I've been trying to get into Pit and ICC every chance I can and so far the bow has not dropped in either.
Garwulf – thank you for all of the information. My wolf is not to that spec so I will fix both of us tonight before raid based on what you have above. I found your survival article a couple of hours after I posted this, printed and was working off it it all weekend. You are correct that shot priority and mechanics are a problem. I am ready to just move my rotation bar to the top/middle of the screen so it is more in line with the fight as opposed to trying to look down all the time to watch the cooldowns then notice I am standing in a pool of slime. It was suggested by someone else in my group to download quartz to help me watch the rotation times but I'm finding it is just one more thing I can't keep an eye on. I've no doubt that will just take me doing more over and over to figure that out. I did swap my rotation around to be in line with what was suggested here and saw a small bump last night in ICC, still just clumsy. =)
You might want to play around with my UI some… http://huntsmanslodge.com/gar-ui
I wouldn't tackle it before the raid, but if you can take a little time getting used to things, it may help you substantially.
You can see it in action here: http://huntsmanslodge.com/hunt…..ower-auras
I use Power Auras to let me know when Black Arrow is off cooldown, Serpent Sting has fallen off, Hunter's Mark is not up, L'n'L procs, buff procs, kill shot's ready, etc…
NeedToKnow shows me the duration of my Serpent Sting and Explosive Shots, as well as my item buff durations – another very useful addon.
OmniCC shows the actual cooldown count over the ability in the action bar and AzCastBar shows me my auto-shot timer.
These 4 addons are very useful for increasing DPS. They provide you with information that allows you to be more efficient with your rotation.
Omen is also huge, but I imagine you're already using that. Aggro management is also an important part of the DPS equation, especially as you start to produce more of it. ![]()
If you have any questions regarding my UI setup (if you decide to try it), fire away. At the very least, I suggest you play with the following addons: OmniCC, AzCastBar and NeedToKnow.

OfflineBig improvement – I changed my specs, snagged a new chest and staff from ICC-25 run, purchased a new cloak and updated my enchants to those listed here. Granted I was buffed heavily but I finally broke 7k in the ICC run for DPS and stayed well above my previous averages in dungeons over the last few days so I am pleased. I tried the UI and had brain overload so I've uninstalled and am going to just put in bits and pieces. OmniCC was very helpful! I have not yet added AzCastBar or NeedToKnow but it's on the list of things to work into as I get comfortable with the additional power auras and Omni information.
Thanks again for all of the information.
