The Garwulf UI V. 3.0

For the most recent version of my user interface, please see this page.

A Place For Everything & Everything In Its Place

My Hunter User Interface
This was one of the philosophies I used when building this new user interface. Every single addon was configured and placed with meticulous care. I really wanted to create a clean, balanced and functional interface, with a large uncluttered field of view.

An All-Purpose UI

My Hunter User Interface in Arena
My interests are varied, so I wanted a UI that could adapt to every single game play situation. I created a UI that provides me with enough necessary and important info while raiding, yet provides a clean and unobstructed view when PvPing.

All Killer, No Filler

Clean Hunter UI

I wanted my UI to be attractive, but I didn’t feel the need to overload it with superfluous addons. Everything I’ve included in my UI is there for a good reason. The graphics in WoW are beautiful in my opinion, so why goop up your screen with a bunch of crap.

Adaptable

Garwulf UI for Death Knights

I also wanted my UI to integrate easily with my other characters. Although it was built around the needs of a Hunter, I wanted to be able to use it with a Death Knight, Warrior, Druid, etc… without any stumbling blocks.

Lean and Mean

The Garwulf UI is very efficient

Because I tried to keep the addons to a minimum, my UI is very easy on resources. With QuestHelper, AuctionLite and Gatherer disabled it typically uses less than 16MB. I suppose you could disable the 3D portraits for even more efficiency, but why would you want to do that..?! They’re so pretty! 😀

No Stone Left Unturned

My UI while Possessing a Keep Cannon

I’ve tested it extensively to make sure that it functions and displays properly in just about any situation, which is one of the reasons why I’ve waited so long to showcase it.

It Uses Godzilla Font for the Combat Text

Godzill font for MSBT

That’s just… well… cool! You could use whatever you want, but why would you want to use anything else..? 😉

The Main Ingredients

The following list contains many of the primary addons I use to achieve the look and core functionality of my UI. I use the Curse Client to manage and update 99% of my addons.

Action Bars

Bartender 4

This is the best action bar mod I’ve found. I’d messed with a few others in the past, but once I discovered Bartender I’ve used it exclusively and have never looked back. It does pretty much anything and everything you want it to do.

You’ll notice that I only have 2 visible action bars on my screen. Those are mainly there for cooldown monitoring, as I have every single one of my abilities tied to a keybind. I have 3 action bars set to invisible, and one on the far right of my screen that only appears on hover-over and while out of combat. The game menu is just above my mini-map and also set to invisible unless hovered over while out of combat.

Unit Frames

Pitbull 4

Although it’s still in development, Pitbull 4 is still my choice for a Unit Frame addon. I’ve tried a handful of others, but haven’t found another UF addon with as much to offer as Pitbull 4.

Pitbull is a lot less plug ‘n’ play than other unit frame addons, but once you get comfortable with it I’ve found it’s pretty easy to work with.

I use it for 6 different unit frame layouts. I have it configured to display me, my pet, my target, my focus, party, and party targets. This is a very basic setup which works for me, but you can configure it to show quite a bit more if needed.

My frames are set to fade out when out of combat, provided I’m at full health and mana. This is a really nice feature, which makes the UI even more disgustingly clean. Thanks to Jroaeyl for reminding me of that setting. 😉

Buffs & Debuffs

Satrina Buff Frame

This addon is just bitchin’. I love it so much that I use it for all of my buff and debuff displays. I have all of the Pitbull 4 buffs and debuffs disabled.

I have it configured to show my buffs and my pet’s buffs on the top left of the screen. I only need to refer to them once in awhile, so I like them out of the way. Debuffs are another story though, so I like to have them right around my and my pet’s unit frames.

My target’s buffs are showed right above the unit frame, with raid-wide debuffs off to the right of the UF. Debuffs that I apply are shown with bars just to the right of my target’s unit frame. I also have another set of debuff timers specifically for Explosive Shot and Serpent Sting placed right above the enemy cast bar, and right below my character. I have them there so it’s easy to see how much time I’ve got remaining on my Explosive and Serpent ticks.

Cast Bars

Az Cast Bar

Due to the stale development on Quartz, I was prompted to find a new cast bar addon. AzCastBar is a highly configurable, customizable and easy to use cast bar replacement. It can handle just about anything, plus it has a few additional plugins available that can expand its functionality. For instance, I use it for my BG timers.

I have ACB set to display my target’s and focus’ cast bars, along with my cast bar and swing timer. Enemy cast bars are located right in between the player and target unit frames. My cast bar and swing timer are just above the pet action bar.

Combat Text

MikScrollingBattleText

MSBT rules. It’s not only a fantastic addon for customizing the look and feel of your combat text, but it’s also a great cooldown and spell alerter. Although you can go nuts with customizations, but it’s pretty much ready right of the box with only a few tweaks here and there.

Raid Warnings and Notifications

Big Wigs

If you raid, then you’ve got to have an addon that provides warnings and timers. Big Wigs fits the bill for me. I have my timers set to display on the left side of my screen, notifications just above my toon, and the proximity warning above my unit frame.

Threat Meter

Omen

A must-have addon for heroics or raiding. Knowing how much threat you’re generating in relation to the tank is extremely important. In addition to the bar graph, you can also configure Omen to display other warnings as well. If you don’t have Omen, then follow my link and get it.

Damage Meter

Recount

The standard for damage meters and raid statistics. Most everyone uses one of these anyway, but in case you don’t, start now. Recount is the only way you’re going to know how much DPS you’re bring to a party or raid. It’s an excellent tool for evaluating yourself.

Raid Frames

Grid

Grid is easy to configure and low profile, which is why I use it. As a DPS’er, I use it for only a handful of things and it fits the bill perfectly. It gives me a quick view of our raid composition, tells me when we’re ready to pull, allows me to focus and misdirect an offtank on the fly, shows me who’s still up, who’s offline, etc.

Helpful Hunter Addons

These are a few addons that I find useful for the Hunter class in particular.

ViperNotify

An awesome addon that’s wonderful in its simplicity and effectiveness. You specify certain thresholds at which it notifies you when you’re either running low on mana, or are near full mana while still in Aspect of the Viper. I have mine configured to sound a warning as well as display an on screen message. You could do something similar with Power Auras, but probably not as easily and effectively as you can with Viper Notify.

RangeDisplay

I mainly use this for PvP, as I find it helpful for gauging safe distance from opponents’ hostile attacks and snares. It’s also useful when raiding, as it gives you a clearer idea of range when dealing with bosses who have deceivingly large hit boxes.

Power Auras Classic

This is perhaps my most treasured and relied upon addon. It can be configured to do just about anything as far as spell alerts and notifications are concerned. I have it configured to display:

  • Lock and Load Procs
  • When Black Arrow is ready
  • When Kill Shot is ready
  • When Serpent Sting is not up on my target
  • When Hunter’s Mark is not up on my target
  • Low health warnings for myself and my pet
  • Mend Pet spell timer
  • Trinket Procs
  • An aura when I’m not in aspect of the Dragonhawk
  • An aura when I’m in Aspect of the Viper

Power Auras gives you loads of options for configuring how these auras display, plus you can attach audible alerts to them as well. The reason I like it so much is because it presents critical information in a type of head up display format right where you want it.

I find this addon to be invaluable for Survival Hunters, as it makes managing Lock and Load procs and DoT uptime so much more efficient. I use it when playing all three Hunter specs, but for Survival I think it’s a must have.

OmniCC

OmniCC displays an actual cooldown timer right on top of your action bar skill icon. It’s very simple, yet extremely effective. With OmniCC there’s no guesswork as to how long you have before that next shot or ability is available. It’s a useful addon for any and all classes, but I wouldn’t want to go Huntering without it.

Everything Else

The rest of my addons are mainly for convenience and/or to doll up the UI.

  • Align – Align allows me to indulge my anal retentive side by providing me with a grid backdrop that allows me to position all of my addons with meticulous care. Just type /align to turn on/off the grid. It’s that simple. It makes for a more Feng Shui UI.
  • Atlas Loot Enhanced – This addon is great for browsing loot tables, looking up craftable items, reputation rewards, and more, all while still in-game. Great for passing time while taking a Gryphon taxi.
  • AuctionLite – I used to use Auctioneer Full Suite until I discovered AuctionLite. It’s a lot more thrifty on resources and still does everything I need it to do. Once you’ve performed the lengthy initial scan after installing, AuctionLite is then able to run entire scans of the AH within moments. It’s very lean and extremely efficient. Try it out.
  • Bagnon – I’d always avoided inventory management addons until I gave Bagnon a try. The feature that sold me on it was the ability to search my bank and alts’ inventory at any time. It’s extremely useful for finding out which character has those Eternal Airs that you need.
  • ButtonFacade – This addon works with SatrinaBuffFrame and Bartender 4, by applying nice fancy skins to my action bar buttons. Why go through the work of configuring a custom UI and not slicken it up a bit with some pretty buttons.
  • ButtonFacade: Apathy – My button skin of choice.
  • Chinchilla MiniMap – Chinchilla gives you control over the look, size and postition of your minimap, as well as what is displayed. I like mine as minimalist as can be and Chinchilla gives me the ability to do that.
  • Fontain – Fontain allows me to apply one universal font to all of my addons without having to manually configure each one. I use Calibri for pretty much everything except for MSBT.
  • Gatherer – This is an essential addon for anyone with gathering professions. It remembers nodes that you’ve mined or herbed, and also notes where treasure chests were looted. It displays icons on your world map as well as your minimap. After a good period of data collection, Gatherer will enable you to patrol specific routes for fruitful gathering runs. It’s functionality is enhanced if members of your guild also use it, as it will input their data as well.
  • Gladius – Gladius is an essential addon for players that like to arena. It’s a configurable unit frame addon that displays your opponents’ health, mana, cast bars, PvP trinket cooldown, and more. It also allows for easier targeting and focusing. If you arena, then install Gladius.
  • GoGoMount – A very simple addon which will select the fastest mount available depending on whether you’re in a no-flight zone or not. It’s a cool addon for those that have multiple mounts, as its default configuration will allow it to randomly select from your available mounts. You can also set it to only utilize specific mounts if you want. After you install it, all you do is create a macro with the text: /click GoGoButton, and you’re done.
  • kgPanels – kgPanels provides the proverbial icing on the cake. It doesn’t provide any extended functionality, but it does enhance the look of the UI by allowing you to configure attractive background panels for other addons. I just use it to put nice uniform panels of the same opacity behind my addons, but kgPanels can do so much more. You can add fancy textures, borders, and behaviors to each of the panels if you wish.
  • NPCScan – This is an addon I’ve covered in previous posts, which notifies you when a rare spawn is near. It displays audible and visual notifications, as well as a targetable unit frame. A must have addon for Hunters out camping rare spawn pets.
  • Postal – Postal’s greatest asset is the ability to grab all of your mail in one click. It also has other convenient shortcuts which make sending and receiving via Azeroth’s postal system a lot easier.
  • Prat 3.0 – Prat extends the functionality of chat by allowing you further customization of how chat is displayed, filtered, etc.
  • QuestHelper – Does what the title says. It helps with questing by providing you with a quest itinerary, as well as displaying handy icons and an ant trail on your world map. It can also show you taxi flight times, quests party memebrs are on, etc. The one caveat with QuestHelper is that it devours memory. I only use it on alts that I’m leveling and have it disabled on all of my other characters.
  • RatingBuster – This is a nifty little addon that enhances item tooltip information by showing how stats translate to you, and how other items compare to the ones you have currently equipped. It’s especially handy for determining if items are upgrades or not.
  • SL Data Text – SLDT is a super simple and lean addon for displaying information such as: the time, inventory space, durability, gold count, coordinates, zone title, memory usage, latency, guild members online, and more. It will show as much or as little as you want it to.
  • TipTac – TipTac is an enhanced tooltip addon. It gives you customization over how character, item and ability tooltips are displayed.
  • TipTac Talents – This little plugin adds character specs to their tooltip, so you can get a quick idea of someone’s spec just by hovering over or targeting them.

So there ya have it. That’s a pretty in-depth look at the UI I’m using at the moment. I was planning on delving a little deeper even, but I feared you guys would have my head if I didn’t post this soon. 😉

It’s not vastly different from other UIs I’ve made in the past, but it is very much improved in a lot of ways. I’ll post a link to my UI compilation once I get some installation instructions written for it, but this post will at least give you something to chew on for a bit.

Update: 6/08/2010

My UI has been updated since this post. The basic layout is quite similar, but a few of the addons have changed. For more information on the most recent version of my user interface, please see this page.

  1. For some reason I don’t have your profiles, I copied your entire Addons folder so I can’t have missed something.

Other than that, thanks alot for your hard work! 😀

  2. I tried to install this this weekend, I did what the directions said, and updated all the mods before entering the game as well (maybe this is part of my problem, maybe I shouldn’t have updated?) And I get tons of UI errors, and things just don’t look the same after moving as many mods over to the Garwulf profile. Would it be possible to redo this with the latest patches, etc? Thanks!

    • It’s coming. I’ve been spending some time with it the past few evenings.

I like to play with a UI for awhile before making it public, so that I have time to work out any problems I see. Most of the stuff I’m doing right now is cosmetic, aside from my Power Auras – I’m still adjusting them.

I’m hoping to be able to post an update within the week.

  3. Great UI, i tried it and got a liitle overwhelmed at all the information coming at me at once, so i am know working on a custom UI with about half the addons. (I’m a little ADD lol)
I have 1 question, how did u get kgPanels to turn off when the respective addon isnt up? i cant find any toggle settings in the config

    • You have to attach them to parent frames. I think what I’ll do is scratch out a quick post on how to work with them. the learning curve is pretty steep, but once you get how it works, they’re a cinch.

UPDATE: Since there’s no telling when I’ll get around to that post, here’s some quick instructions…

First off, you need to find out the name of the parent frame you’ll be attaching your panel to. To do this, you need to create a macro using the following command:

      /run ChatFrame1:AddMessage(GetMouseFocus():GetName())

Then, you hover over the frame you want to attach your panel to, then hit the macro. The name of the panel will appear in your chat box. In the KG Panels config, you then type in that frame name in the Parent field of the panel you’re configuring. Once it’s attached to that parent frame, the panel will then only appear when it’s parent frame is visible.

I use this technique for Recount, Omen and my raid frame.

  4. Ok, i downloaded it and followed the instructions to the letter, but when i go through and change everything to your profile, half the stuff just disappears, errors keep popping up no matter what i do, and kgPanels is just not working whatsoever, neither is Bartender. Do you think you could put up a version configured for laptops? I think that might be the problem here.

  5. Hey Gar, I’m thinking about switching from using the default ui to a modded ui with yours as the base, but I noticed you are in the process of updating it. Any estimate of when you were thinking of posting an updated ui package? I don’t want to start messing with it only to have you post an updated version a few weeks later, since I’m pretty sure I’m going to spend many hours cursing at my screen before I’m happy with it. I really like the screenshots you’ve posted here and also what I’ve glimpsed in some recent posts.

Thanks for all the hard work!

  6. Gar,
This is my first time trying a new UI and I have most of it set up except for my action bars. For some reason i cannot see them the way you have it set up. I have tried changing the setting in bartender but nothing seems to work. what am i doing wrong?

  7. Garwulf,

Though its been a while since you post, I came across it while making some changes to my UI. I wasn’t planning on using the exact setup but downloaded you full file package to try out. Following your instructions, I could not find your profile listed in the various addon options, but like the layouts. I’d love to know more about the settings for Chinchilla and kgpanels.

Thanks for any new updates on your UI!

  8. Thanks so much for all the work you did explaining the UI. I dinged 80 not long ago and always wanted more from the UI but couldn’t find a patch updated hunter setup until I looked there. I’m tweaking you UI for my 1280×1040 screen and (noobishly) can’t figure out how to move the ‘general’ cast bar (for hearthstones and mounts). Is it moved/modded in Pitbull4, Bartender4, or something else? Thanks again for all your work in describing your UI.

    • Hi Mynassar,

The cast bar is provided by an addon called Az Cast Bar. Just open up the config by typing /acb, then click on edit mode. You can drag the cast bars anywhere you want them.

There’s a link to download the addon in my post.

Glad you like the UI post. 😀

    • Kazador,

I am working on a newer version of my UI. Visually, it’s going to be even simpler, but with a more sophisticated Power Auras setup. I am also going to start messing with Power Auras dual spec feature, so yea… I may add some PvP-specific auras. I’ll be sure to post it once I’m done.

How did you finally get it to work with the 1280 X 1024? I have been trying for 3 hours and I just can’t seem to get it. I think I have it but I have these stupid black boxes where I’ve tried to resize it to fit my screen.

  12. Does anyone else have a problem where occasionally the ui just starts not responding. Espicially on wow dialogue boxes like lfg, profession screens. Pretty much anything that isn’t an addon ui?

    • No, it’s not. I’ve updated all of mine for 3.3, but I’ve yet to update the package here.

So far, the only non-compliant addon from the list is SLDT. Apart from it, everything is working just peachy.

When I get some free moments, I plan on tuning things a bit more and uploading a version 3.1. 😉 It’ll be pretty much the same, just better. 😀

  13. I have a couple questions for you about configuration and possible bugs.
With SLDataText, how do you set zonetext to not show the main zone too? Also, how do you get it to stick to the right side and grow to the left?

Ok I’m getting a bug and I’m not sure which addon is causing it, or if it’s even an addon, but I’m getting parts of the screen where i can’t click. It’s usually around the middle of the screen. I had a vendor’s shop window open and my character screen open and I couldn’t click the cloak, I also couldn’t click Interface at the menu. I logged out and disabled all the addons, logged on and it was gone. I Enabled the addons again and logged back on and it was still fine. It’s intermittent. I figured it was most likely power auras classic but I couldn’t find anybody else saying so. I also thought maybe Clique.

    • Hi Astrobanshee,

Check out some of the suggestions in the comments for this post:

      https://huntsmanslodge.com/4717/any-alternatives.htm

As for the non-clickable areas, I’m not sure about that. I’ve not experienced anything like that since the patch. Make sure your addons are all patched up with any 3.3 updates. Beyond that, you can try the old fashioned method of enabling them one at a time til you find the culprit.

As far as my UI compilation goes, SLDT was the only addon that was hassling me. The rest were fine.

      Reply
      • I figured out how to get it to spit out the zone text to the left, you just set it to justify text to the right. I thought i did that though but it’s working now.

Do you remember how you got it to not display the zone name though? Maybe it was just that way in an older version. I really like sldt and I’d hate to dump it, luckily it actually seems to be fine, I just had to edit the zonetext.lua file.

Where do you stick your mail notification? I like the tracking in the minimap w/ sbf and thought maybe it would be possible to do something like that with the mail notification too.

I’m using ‘skinner’ myself to create a black area across the bottom of the screen where much of the displays are located, this made it alot easier for me to get the layout sorted on a lower res than yours.

    @ Varcil

The tracking square on the minimap is a SatrinaBuffFrame. Just go into /sbf options and select my profile.

    @ zarry

Adapting it to 1600×1200 may take a little work, as it’s not the native resolution. mess with the UI scale maybe?

As for SLDT… seems people have been having some issues with it. I’m not sure as to why, because I can’t recreate the problem. As long as you select my profile you should be fine.

I’ve installed my UI on four separate toons without incident. The only thing addon I’ve had to manually tweak has been Recount, but that’s expected.

    @ Nyte

My guess is that you’re missing some necessary files, or maybe you accidentally dropped some into the wrong folder. I recommend just going back through the ReadMe to make sure you didn’t miss anything.

  21. Gar,

First the UI looks amazing. Just coming back to Wow and this setup if very similar to what I’ve had in the past. I am having one small issue however. When I look under profiles for the various addons I’m not seeing Garwulf-Kul Tiras or any profiles other than the defaults. I’m sure I’m missing something in the read me file but for the life of me I can not identify the problem. If you could point me in the right direction I would be greatly appreciative.

  23. Great job on the UI, Garwulf! Thanks for all of the hard work you put into this; I saw it and immediately had to download it.

I was swapping out some addons with similar functionality and dropping addons I thought I didn’t particularly need. Somewhere along the way I lost the little tracking square on the minimap. If you could tell me which addon that is a part of it would be much appreciated (I was using SLDT for my last tracking “button,” but the text doesn’t really catch my eye. I don’t really think I need to Find Fish in ToC…).

And, again, thanks for the amazing UI!

Right click on the mini-map and when the Chinchilla config pane opens, select Profile, then select Garwulf – Kul Tiras from the drop-down.

Type /pitbull, then select profile and Garwulf – Kul Tiras.

Type /sldt, select profile and Garwulf – Kul Tiras.

      Type /reload

Should be good to go at this point. Let me know.

    • My advice would be to disable a few of the unnecessary addons, ie: QuestHelper (huge memory hog), AuctionLite and Gatherer. That will smooth things out a bit.

With those 3 inactive it still takes a little longer than usual for me to log in, but it’s not too bad. QuestHelper is really the main offender here. If you do require a quest assistant, then you may want to look at Carbonite if QH is bogging you down.

You’re on the right track now.

Now just select Garwulf – Kul Tiras in the Profiles list for:

      /bt4
      /pibtull
      /sbf options
      /kgpanels config
      /omen config
      /prat
      /rangedisplay
      /sldt

      etc…

A lot of these you can access via the Interface\Addons menu. For the mini map, just right click on it and the config screen will pop up. Then select my profile.

Once you start running down the list, things should begin to take form. After awhile just do a /relaod to save the changes.

Recount is one addon that takes a little manual customization, but I believe the steps are covered in the Read Me.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it’s going.

Also note that you’ll only have 2 action bars visible on screen. To access the other 4 go to:

      /bt4

      – highlight Bar 3
      – click the Visibility tab
      – uncheck Always Hide
      – repeat for bars 4-5
      – bar 6 is visible on hover-over to the right of the screen

Now you can drag skills over to your action bars. To apply keybinds to them, type in /kb or click on the Key Bindings tab in the Bartender 4 config area. After that, simply hover over the action bar slot and press a key.

Once you get your keybinds configured, you can hide the bars again.

  29. I can repeat the bouncing feature when once i get knocked to login screen, i quit the prog and do a fresh overwrite of the WTF folder. When i don’t do this i can log on fine but everything is on default.

Mac or PC? When you load everything, make sure you put the Interface/Addons folder into your WoW folder. Not just Addons into your WoW folder.

  31. Tried any combination of integrating the WTF folder as i can.

    -Original WTF, copying zipped over
-Deleting old one and copy the zipped over
-Deleting old one, log on to create new WTF folder then copy over
-Deleting old one, directly copy the zipped over and renaming the folders

Everytime it would either bounce me out or all the windows are default… until just now i got a debug

  32. great looking ui ty for sharing. Well i’ve tried a few ways trying to load your profile having no luck. I moved my orig wtf and interface folder elsewhere.
Unzipped the files into wow folder. Renamed account, server and character name to mine.

Loaded wow, changed res before login, enabled oodate addons. Tried logging onto chara but got bounced to login screen.

When i log into chara again, all the variables would reset and everything is on default.

You don’t want to rename the folders in my package, but rather drag the contents of them into the respective folders in your World of Warcraft directory.

in the folder labeled YOURACCOUNT, drag only the SavedVariables folder, SavedVariable.lua and SavedVariable.lua.bak into the respective folder with your account name.

Open the YourServer folder, then open the Your Character folder. Drag the contents of the Your Character folder into the appropriate character folder for whom you want to configure the UI for.

      That should do it.

Still, let me know if you still see errors, etc.

  33. GREAT looking UI, I may give it a whirl. Any reason you chose not to use Viewport to keep all of the play screen unobstructed?

    Again, looks great!

  34. Hey there Garwulf! Thank you for uploading this gorgeous UI. It will look beautiful on my desktop (the same as yours, actually!) but I lament at the fact that my laptop will require some work to make it fit.

I have a few suggestions if you’d like to chat, hunter to hunter! Let me know. =)

I must say… I really like how clean this makes everything! I also wanted to express my thanks for the power auras links in a later post. muchly appreciated! /salute

That’s what I was going for with my post. I figured some may want to try my UI compilation out as is, and others may want to pick and choose. That’s why I wanted to give a detailed description about each addon and why I use it. I’m glad you’re enjoying configuring things and trying new addons.

      Thanks for the props. 😀

That’s a Power Aura. I have it there to show me when I’m not in Aspect of the Dragonhawk. If you don’t like it, then just go into the Power Auras config by typing /powa. Ctrl-Click on the Dragonhawk icon and it’s gone. Poof!

  41. Hey Garwulf,

Very nice UI. I’m playing around with it, and I seem to have a glowing in the middle of my screen — it’s a little white starburst. Any idea which one that’s from (and more to the point how I can get rid of it)?

Thanks again for posting this. It’s really nice.

  42. yo Gar, I’ll keep technical UI questions as low as possible but your post convinced me to try a new UI (3 years I’ve been using the standard one ;). Why? Put simply, because you detailed out things without being annoying.

So far so good, I’ve taken some ideas from you and applied them to my UI. My philosophy is “less is more”. That said, less icons/tools on the screen = more happyness.

My UI (1280×1024) right now is looking like this:
    http://i33.tinypic.com/2qc02lv.jpg

I need a hint: how do I change the TOP LEFT frame (Dalaila + Pet + health + mana) and (when it exists) the selected unit/mob/npc/boss/whatever frame? I’d like something less invasive and closer to the top left corner, for example (more visible space = happy!).

  43. Gar I’ve got a question I’m unable to answer googling around. Using Bartender to hide a bar, how do you show it using a key? I’m able to hide it and mouse-over to make it appear, but I’d like to just hide, press “alt+ctrl” (for example) and see it. As soon as I release the keys… it goes back to “hidden” status.

Did not figure it out yet 😐

My guess is that you’d need a specific script to do what you want Bartender 4 to do. It would be entered in the Custom Conditionals area under the Visibility tab. Maybe look here: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info11190-Bartender4.html#comments. I’m sure it can be done, I just haven’t come across a custom script for that function yet.

I tried ShadowedUnitFrames out and liked them, but Pitbull is still my preference. One nice thing about ShadowedUF is that they’re pretty much ready to rock once you get them in place. They look nice and don’t require a ton of customization. I like Pitbull a bit more for the complete control it gives you over what is displayed and how.

When you get everything settled, shoot me over another screenshot along with your addon list. I want to feature other Hunter UIs on the site as well. Not everyone may be into the look I went after, and some may not want something that involved. If I can showcase some other readers’ UIs it will give visitors an opportunity to get a better feel for how they would want their UI to look.

  44. Another addon I’d like to suggest for chat spamming, something that was ruining my gaming experience in town (almost completely)

    BadBoy + BadBoy_CCleaner

Your trade (and other) channel will suddenly become a clean, peaceful and *useful* place to actually discuss about trading stuff.

    Reply
    • @ Dalaila

I’ll have to look into that trade channel filter. There’s a guy on my server who’s solely responsible for me turning off my trade channel. He’s even gone so far as to start his own guild called, . Not only is he annoying as hell, but he brings out all the trolls as well. This addon sounds like it may be the ticket for being able to use trade again for… *gasp* actually trading. What a concept.

Being a Gatherere adept myself, I’d like to suggest “GathererDB WoWHead”. It’s a full pre-made database of herbs, ores, trasures and more already “discovered” and positioned on the map. You basically install it and BLAMM!… every single ore/herb node is already marked on the map/minimap.

A must have, it makes farming-routes as easy as following a TomTom

    • Crap.

Sorry Zarry. I’m fixing it right now. I think I know what happened and it involves me being absent minded this evening. I think that on my final test before zipping up the files, I accidentally drug the files out of the wtf folder instead of copying.

I’ll have it back up soon.

      * * * UPDATE * * *

Crisis averted. I have repackaged and re-zipped the UI file. Everything should be present and accounted for now. Sigh… UI compilation pcackages are tough stuff.

  48. Would you be so kind to try using this UI with a lower resolution, like 1440×900 for laptops, and see if the bars position themselves correctly? Otherwise I’ll have to place everything manually QQ
