The mousing surface just gives you a nice low-profile, consistent surface to mouse upon. If you already have something which does that, then you're probably set. I bought it about 4 years ago when I got my first super-duper custom PC. I figured I needed a high-end mouse pad to go with my powerhouse PC. ;) I’m sure that mat works just fine.
