One week ago today, Mania’s Petopia site was down a decent portion of the day. Now tonight, my site was offline for nearly three hours. I was taking my dad out to a birthday dinner, otherwise I’d have gone mentally irregular on my hosting company.
In addition to developing websites for clients, I also manage and provision hosting for them. As a web developer, it’s really nice to be able to provide this added service to my customers. The downside however, is when things like a server outage occurs, which is what happened tonight. I am then no longer the “website guy”, but instead I become “mr. hosting company tech support” and I get war-dialed by clients. Fortunately for me, my hosting company is really legit and provides excellent customer service.
I wrote them a formal “concern”, as opposed to a complaint, and I’m expecting a favorable and reassuring response. I’m huge on customer service, but nice guy only goes so far when it’s business. My clients mainly care about reliability and uptime. But… everyone likes a free month or two of hosting, so I’m hoping that Innohosting steps up to the plate and helps me help them, “them” being my hopefully loyal customers.
Am I rambling. Probably. Is this related to World of Warcraft in any way. No. Should I shut up now. Most likely. Do I need to log on and do some Huntering. Definitely!
